Senior Financial Analyst

Job Description

The Senior Financial Analyst oversees day-to-day accounting operations, leads financial reporting and analysis, and drives budgeting and forecasting to support strategic decision-making. This role manages core accounting processes in QuickBooks Pro, owns project accounting across multiple grants and contracts, and partners closely with the CFO to deliver timely, accurate, and insightful financial information. The position requires a hands-on professional who can maintain GAAP-compliant, audit-ready books, improve financial systems and processes, and communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance stakeholders in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

Manage daily accounting operations in QuickBooks Pro, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.Coordinate with and oversee an outsourced accounting team to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.Lead the month-end close process and own payroll administration across multiple geographies, ensuring timely and accurate processing in line with local employment, tax, and statutory requirements.Own project accounting across multiple grants and contracts, tracking budgets, monitoring burn rates, and ensuring all expenditures comply with funder requirements.Partner closely with the CFO to develop financial reports, dashboards, and analyses that provide clear, decision-ready insights for leadership.Build and maintain the annual budget and rolling forecasts, updating projections monthly to reflect current business conditions.Conduct budget-to-actual variance analysis, interpret trends in key performance indicators, and translate findings into concise financial narratives.Proactively surface financial risks and opportunities to leadership and communicate business issues clearly and in a timely manner.Take full ownership of routine and ad-hoc financial reporting, ensuring information is accurate, well-organized, and delivered when leadership needs it.Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to financial systems and processes across accounting workflows, QuickBooks, and related tools to drive efficiency, accuracy, and stronger internal controls.Support team members internationally with financial and accounting needs, ensuring consistent standards and practices across locations.Provide administrative and analytical support to the CFO, helping prioritize tasks and ensuring smooth financial operations.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.At least 3 years of hands-on experience as an Accountant or Financial Analyst.Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Pro and the ability to independently manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close.Thorough knowledge of GAAP and a track record of maintaining clean, audit-ready books.Experience with project accounting, including tracking budgets, monitoring burn rates, and ensuring financial compliance across multiple contracts simultaneously.Advanced Excel skills, including building financial models, variance analyses, and dashboards from scratch, as well as fluency with pivot tables, complex formulas, and data visualization.Experience using bill.com or similar platforms for payment processing and vendor management.Strong financial analysis, forecasting, reporting, and budgeting capabilities.Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with both finance and non-finance stakeholders, translating financial data into plain-language insights that support better decisions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Degree in Accounting is strongly preferred.Experience working in a startup or growth-stage environment, ideally in health, digital health, or software.Comfort working in organizations with fewer than 500 employees and a well-rounded, hands-on approach to operational and administrative support.Familiarity with supporting a CFO or Senior finance leader, including administrative and analytical support.Experience with outsourced accounting teams and the ability to coordinate and oversee their work effectively.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment with evolving priorities and ambiguity.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and timeliness in all financial deliverables.Collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment

This hybrid role is based in Washington, DC, with two days per week onsite (Tuesday and Thursday) and the remaining time worked remotely. The position reports directly to the CFO and functions as a key strategic and operational partner. The team works closely and values collaboration, often sharing team lunches and fostering a supportive, high-engagement culture. The work environment is that of a mission-driven, growth-stage organization, where priorities can shift quickly and initiative is encouraged. Core tools include QuickBooks Pro, Excel, bill.com, and related financial systems, and the role involves regular interaction with both internal teams and external accounting partners

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
