KITCO Fiber Optics is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Field Services Technician to lead our Technical Services team in National City, CA. This leadership role involves overseeing fiber optic termination, testing, troubleshooting, blown fiber installation/removal, and splicing operations across a wide range of shipboard systems and vessel classes. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, mentorship capabilities, and a commitment to excellence in supporting mission-critical naval communications infrastructure.

KITCO Fiber Optics is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Field Services Technician to lead our Technical Services team in Norfolk, VA. This leadership role involves overseeing fiber optic termination, testing, troubleshooting, blown fiber installation/removal, and splicing operations across a wide range of shipboard systems and vessel classes. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, mentorship capabilities, and a commitment to excellence in supporting mission-critical naval communications infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Technician, you will be expected to:

Lead and coordinate field service operations, ensuring quality and efficiency across all fiber optic tasksMentor and train junior technicians in termination, testing, and troubleshooting proceduresOversee installation and removal of blown optical fiber systems, ensuring compliance with Navy standardsPerform advanced splicing and support tasks on shipboard fiber optic networksInterpret complex technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and work item instructionsOperate and guide others in the use of optical test equipment to verify cable performanceReview and approve documentation of test and inspection results in accordance with customer requirementsEnsure proper maintenance and calibration of termination and test equipmentSupervise work in shipboard environments including confined spaces, heights, and varying temperaturesCoordinate domestic and international travel logistics for field service teamsCollaborate with project managers and engineering teams to meet deadlines and quality standardsPerform other leadership duties as assigned to support business operations

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or industrial school certificate requiredAbility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense SECRET clearanceMust pass drug screening, physical exam, and background check for access to Navy installationsMust be able to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passportWillingness to travel, including overseas assignmentsAvailability for overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidaysMust be available for on-call emergency tasks

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of practical shipboard experience in fiber optics or electronicsPrior leadership or supervisory experience in technical field operationsBackground in Navy IC/ET/AT/EM rates or trade school graduateNAVSEA fiber optic certification or ability to certify per Navy Standard Item 009-73 and MIL-STD-2042Proven expertise in installing, terminating, and inspecting fiber optic cable assemblies onboard U.S. Navy shipsAdvanced proficiency with optical test equipment and interpreting customer wiring listsStrong troubleshooting skills and ability to repair cable assemblies to meet military standardsExcellent documentation and reporting skills

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, stretch, reach, squat, and twist for extended periodsCapable of lifting and transporting equipment and boxes weighing 30 lbs or moreComfortable working on ladders, in confined spaces, and aboard ships in industrial environmentsMust be able to work in conditions involving heat, humidity, noise, and exposure to dust or dirtAble to work aloft or over the sides of vessels when required

Pay Range:

22.40 - 33.60
