Job Description

AECOM Enterprise Capabilities is seeking a talented for the Senior Engineer - Transmission & Distribution (Secondary) is responsible for the design and delivery of secondary engineering systems for High Voltage Substations, including protection, control, automation, and communication systems. The role is primarily focused on producing high-quality engineering deliverables across all project phases (FEED, Detailed Design, Construction, and Commissioning support), ensuring technical compliance, constructability, and reliable operation of the substation.

Prepare and deliver secondary design documentation for HV Substations, including:

Protection & control schematicsWiring and interconnection diagramsCable schedules and termination drawingsProtection single line diagrams and logic diagramsPanel layouts and equipment arrangementsDevelop protection and control philosophies and contribute to Basis of Design documentation.Perform engineering design of AC/DC auxiliary systems, control circuits, interlocking, and automation interfaces.Support relay configuration and protection scheme design (distance, differential, overcurrent, busbar, transformer protection, etc.).Ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with project scope, schedule, and budget.Work closely with the Project Engineer and/or Project Manager to support engineering planning, deliverables tracking, and technical coordination.Support projects across all phases: tender, design, construction, testing, and commissioning.Provide technical input for engineering estimates, change management, and technical risk mitigation.Coordinate with primary, civil, and SCADA/telecom disciplines to ensure integrated and clash-free design.Prepare and maintain high-quality engineering documentation, including:Design reports and calculationsProtection philosophies and relay setting inputsTechnical specifications and material requisitionsPerform self-checks and peer reviews of engineering deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance.Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site testing, and commissioning documentation when required.Provide engineering support during construction, energization, and commissioning phases.Assist in resolving technical issues related to protection, control, and secondary systems.Provide limited technical guidance to junior engineers when needed, without formal mentorship responsibility.Ensure all designs comply with:International standards (IEC, IEEE)Utility and client technical specificationsCompany engineering procedures and quality requirements

Maintain awareness of industry developments and best practices in substation secondary engineering.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Electrical Engineer + 4 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationProven experience in Secondary Systems Engineering mainly for HV/EHV Substations.Proven experience delivering secondary design packages for EPC / Design-Build substation projects.Exposure to International standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, Australian Standards and Middle East region codes and standards) is preferred.Strong knowledge of: Protection & control systems, substation secondary circuits and interlocking, AC/DC auxiliary systems, Relay protection schemes and logic.Experience in producing complete secondary deliverables independently.Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines.English language is mandatory (Oral and written).

Preferable Requirements

Overall 6+ years of work experience is preferredMaster of Engineering degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.Strong focus on delivery, quality, and deadlines.Good coordination and communication skills within multidisciplinary project teams.Ability to work independently in a project delivery environment.Experience with relay families: ABB, Siemens, GE, SEL (configuration / mapping / settings input).Site commissioning or field engineering experience.Knowledge of SCADA systems and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3).Familiarity with control equipment: protection relays, PLCs, RTUs, concentrators, and bay controllers.Experience with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP.Understanding of IEC 61850 architecture and substation automation systems
