Job Description

AECOM Enterprise Capabilities is seeking a talented  The Senior Engineer - Transmission & Distribution (Primary) is responsible for the delivery of primary design engineering for High Voltage Substation projects, ensuring timely and high-quality production of engineering deliverables related to primary circuits. The role focuses on execution of project design packages, technical accuracy, and the guidance/coordination of CAD designers/drafters supporting the development of drawings and models. The position requires strong hands-on experience in substation primary engineering and project delivery within transmission and distribution environments.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver complete primary circuit engineering packages for HV Substation projects in accordance with project scope, schedule, and quality requirements.Prepare and manage design deliverables for different project phases (concept, 30%, IFC, As-Built).Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Protection & Control, Civil, Structural, BIM, and Construction) to ensure integrated design delivery.Support project engineers and managers with technical input, progress tracking, and issue resolution.Develop and produce primary substation design deliverables including: Single Line Diagrams (SLD), Substation layouts and equipment arrangement, Busbar and conductor design, Electrical clearances and safety procedures in a substation, Earthing and lightning protection and lighting calculations of a substation.Ensure compliance with project specifications, client standards, and international standards (IEC / IEEE / AS).Perform technical checks and reviews of primary design drawings and documents.Guide and coordinate CAD designers and drafters in the preparation of drawings and models.Review and validate drawing quality, consistency, and compliance with standards ensuring timely production and revision of drawings aligned with project delivery milestones.Provide technical support during design, procurement, and construction phases if required.Resolve engineering and interface issues related to primary equipment and layout.Review vendor drawings and technical submissions for primary equipment.Provide limited technical guidance to junior engineers when needed, without formal mentorship responsibility.Prepare and maintain high-quality engineering documentation and design reports.Ensure proper version control and traceability of drawings and deliverables.Support preparation of material take-offs and technical specifications when required.Ensure all designs comply with:International standards (IEC, IEEE)Utility and client technical specificationsCompany engineering procedures and quality requirementsMaintain awareness of industry developments and best practices in substation secondary engineering.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Electrical Engineer + 4 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationProven experience in HV Substation Primary Design and project delivery.Proven experience in delivering primary engineering packages for transmission/distribution substations.Strong knowledge of HV substation primary design principles and deliverables.Proficiency in engineering and drafting tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation; BIM/Revit is an advantage).Experience coordinating CAD/drafting resources for drawing production.Exposure to International standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, Australian Standards and Middle East region codes and standards) is preferred.Understanding of equipment such as transformers, AIS/GIS switchgear, busbars, disconnectors, and grounding systems.Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines.English language is mandatory (Oral and written).

Preferable Requirements

Overall 6+ years of work experience is preferredMaster of Engineering degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.Strong focus on delivery, quality, and deadlines.Good coordination and communication skills within multidisciplinary project teams.Ability to work independently in a project delivery environment.Experience working on international HV substation projects.Site commissioning or field engineering experience.Knowledge of BIM / digital engineering workflows.Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification.Experience with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP.
