The Intelligent Systems Technology Center (ISTC), located in Seoul, Korea was established to enhance our global network of technology centers and supports our mission of safety in the region and around the world. As an Engineer in this center, you will participate in or lead research and development projects with regional and global clients. Projects focus on smart and autonomous functions, application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and future ship concepts.
What You Will Do:
Lead and Contribute to Research Projects: Drive or participate in research and development initiatives across a broad spectrum of intelligent systems, with a focus on:- Application of AI for marine and offshore
- Smart and autonomous ship systems
- Digital twin of ship and offshore systems
- Smart technologies for shipyards
- Future ship concepts and innovations
Develop Technical Guidance: Develop and refine safety standards, classification requirements, and best practices for the implementation of emerging technologies. Collaborate with Clients and Stakeholders: Work closely with regional and global clients to understand their needs and deliver innovative solutions that align with ABS’s mission of safety and sustainability. Support Technology Integration: Provide technical expertise to support the safe adoption and integration of intelligent systems and advanced technologies in marine and offshore environments. Demonstrate Thought Leadership: Represent ABS through technical publications, conference presentations, and participation in industry panels, showcasing expertise in intelligent systems and future ship technologies. Engage in Industry Collaboration: Actively participate in industrial committees and working groups to influence the development of technical capabilities and standards across the industry.What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline is required; a Master’s or PhD in a relevant field is strongly preferred. At least 2 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following: shipyards, design/consulting offices, shipping or oil companies, offshore energy companies, universities, or classification societies.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with marine intelligent systems, including collision detection and avoidance, autonomous operations, and smart functions such as digital twins, robotics, and smart management systems, etc. Familiarity with AI and its applications in the marine and offshore industries. Solid understanding of the marine and offshore industry, including experience working with or within classification societies. Excellent technical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to write and present effectively in English.
