We’re growing our transportation team and looking for an Senior Electrical Engineer with experience in roadway illumination and traffic signal design for MTO projects is a must. Location: Markham, Ontario
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering electrical designs for highways and roadways across Ontario. Your main focus will be on:
Designing roadway lighting (illumination) layouts, including pole and luminaire placement and lighting calculations.Designing traffic signal layouts, including phasing, interconnections, and controller configurations.Preparing MTO-compliant drawings, quantities, and contract documents.Coordinating with civil, structural, and transportation teams to integrate electrical designs into larger projects.Ensuring designs meet MTO, PEO, OESC, TAC, and municipal standards.Supporting project managers with design tasks, schedules, and coordination.Key Responsibilities
Produce and review electrical designs for roadway illumination and traffic signals on MTO and municipal projects.Complete lighting and photometric calculations using industry software.Prepare drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for electrical components.Develop and verify quantities and material take-offs for tender documents.Apply MTO standards, manuals, and procedures in all project deliverables.Support responses to RFIs and review shop drawings during construction, as needed.Work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, utilities, and municipalities.What We’re Looking For
Must Have
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).8-10 years of electrical engineering experience with a focus on:Roadway illumination/lighting designTraffic signal designProven MTO project experience (design and documentation for roadway electrical work).Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).Familiarity with lighting calculation software (e.g., AGi32 or similar).Knowledge of Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), TAC guidelines, and relevant municipal standards.Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.Nice to Have
Direct experience working with MTO and Ontario municipalities on highway/road projects.Experience supporting contract administration (RFIs, addenda, submittal reviews).Knowledge of ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) infrastructure.Experience guiding or mentoring junior staff.Why Join Parsons?
