About the Role

A well-established building services contractor based in Bridgend is looking to hire a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing team.
You will be instrumental in leading electrical design and installation coordination on a wide range of commercial, residential, education, and healthcare projects. This is a hands-on role requiring close collaboration with project managers, site teams, and clients to ensure smooth delivery from design through to installation and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

Lead electrical design development tailored to contractor project delivery, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, data/communications, and security systemsPrepare and review technical drawings, design calculations, and installation specifications to support site teamsLiaise directly with site engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation issues on siteEnsure compliance with UK wiring regulations (BS 7671), building regulations, and health & safety standardsManage project timelines and communicate progress effectively with clients and internal teamsSupport tendering and value engineering exercises by providing technical inputMentor junior electrical engineers and provide technical guidanceCoordinate with other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery and resolve clashesConduct site visits to verify design implementation and troubleshoot issues

Candidate Requirements

Degree qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (CIBSE, IET, or equivalent)Minimum 5+ years’ experience in electrical design within a building services contracting environment or contractor-focused consultancyPractical understanding of electrical installation processes and site coordinationStrong knowledge of BS 7671, UK building regulations, and CDM regulationsProficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux, or similar)Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with site teams and clientsStrong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple projectsProactive problem solver with a hands-on approach
