As Senior Director, Research Operations II, you hold primary responsibility for the strategic oversight and management of operational activities within the Inflammation and Immunity department, as well as associated departments or teams. In this role, you serve as the senior administrative authority for research departments, programs, markets and shared services, providing direction to multiple complex and diverse groups. Additionally, you will leverage departmental and program leaders to ensure cohesive management of the Research Enterprise and oversee all administrative aspects of research, including financial operations, resource allocation, and ensuring compliant, efficient and ethical conduct. This role is integral to the advancement of research, a foundational pillar of Cleveland Clinic and directly supports the institution’s mission of innovation and excellence in patient care.
A caregiver in this role works days from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Administer one or more large or very large departments, along with multiple related teams in a matrixed environment.
Act as the liaison between researchers and research leaders and oversee all administrative aspects of research activities for their areas.
Set priorities to ensure that research is conducted efficiently, ethically and in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Work closely with research leaders to ensure service level expectations are managed and supported.
Provide key information and update to inform research operation reviews.
Create and direct strategy and growth, implementation, research and shared services productivity, financial performance, compliance and risk mitigation and continuous improvement for their research areas.
Lead and manage people in a complex environment, setting meaningful goals and ensuring accountability in achievement.
Select top talent and build leadership succession through development and coaching.
Provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities for research team members.
Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and excellence within research operations.
Set priorities for their area leads delivery of services, programs and projects to develop and implement policies, procedures, standards and strategic plans for assigned research areas.
Manage and allocate resources to align with business objectives for research area.
Plan and manage the financial operations for the assigned research areas, including budget development, expense and revenue analysis, evaluation of research support and shared services and development activities.
Provide reporting to Research leadership as required.
Develop short and long-term research strategy.
Manage team to ensure execution of the growth plan and programmatic development.
Drive research integrity by partnering with researchers to ensure compliance with relevant policies, regulations and ethical standards.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field AND 12 years of professional and functionally relevant experience with 8 years of demonstrated leadership and management experience OR master's degree in a relevant field AND 10 years of professional and functionally relevant experience with 8 years of demonstrated leadership and management experience
Foundational experience in research operations, including managing labs, recruitment, compliance or budget oversight
Excellent analytical skills and business acumen
Strong oral and written communication skills in English
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s degree in business, Healthcare Administration or related field
Significant experience in research administration
People management and operations experience
Knowledge of how to lead a complex environment

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
