Cleveland Clinic is seeking an experienced and dedicated leader to serve as Senior Director II – Orthopedic Surgery. Cleveland Clinic’s Orthopaedic & Rheumatologic Institute offers expert diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for adults and children with bone, joint or connect tissue disorders, with a team of more than 650 specialty-trained therapists at more than 45 locations.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Director II serves as the administrative leader for Orthopaedic Surgery, with an enterprise-wide scope. This role leads clinical areas with high complexity as determined by the Enterprise Chief of Staff complexity guidelines and factors. Additionally, this leader oversees multiple groups with a high collective complexity, leverages Director Institute leaders to manage component parts of the organization and oversees the work of team members, including program and project managers, analysts and program coordinators.
The Senior Director II – Orthopaedic Surgery leads and facilitates a team focused on the following key areas: provider management, volume, access and productivity; service line financial performance at the patient encounter level; service line strategy and growth; quality improvement and patient experience.
The Senior Director II – Orthopaedic Surgery leads in a matrixed environment and will act as the liaison between the provider organization and market leadership to ensure patient scheduling and throughput is meeting service level expectations, working closely with Shared Services leaders to ensure service level expectations are managed and supported.
A caregiver in this role works Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. -- 5 p.m., on-site at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Lead a team responsible for provider volume, access, and productivity.
Collaborate with physician and APP leadership to optimize provider productivity.
Be responsible for maintaining a productive provider schedule (weekly or inpatient service).
Ensure the team is following standards for provider templates design, decision tree and provider fill rates (outpatient institutes).
Lead team responsible for provider recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding.
Manage provider allocation to exam room, OR, and procedure blocks provided by market teams and partner with market to support facility space utilization.
Work with hospital teams to enable hospital throughput.
Ensure team routinely partners with ambulatory operations for inbound and outbound patient scheduling (outpatient institutes).
Be responsible for partnering with Ambulatory Operations and Access Team to ensure scheduling algorithms and standard work are optimized routinely (outpatient institutes).
Work closely with local teams to ensure they are structured to meet patients served and growth targets.
Be responsible for aligning practices within market to enterprise standards established by Institute.
Implement practice support models and ensure coordination between local provider support teams.
Act as the subject matter expert across the organization for service line financial performance and improvement opportunities (patient level encounter reporting): revenue per encounter, cost per encounter, contribution margin, length of stay (LOS) observed to expected.
Initiate and monitor improvement initiatives for service line financial performance and influence all key stakeholders across the organization to execute on opportunities.
Consistently evaluate profitability of services at each location to inform appropriate site of service and consult market and shared services on opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost reduction opportunities.
In partnership with Executive Director, develop long-term service line strategy. Manage team to ensure execution of the long-term growth plan, provider recruitment, and programmatic development.
Drive the development of innovative practice models, adoption of new technology and expansion of novel clinical services within a market and work with market teams to assess service line demand and competition within a given market.
Closely partner with all Quality, Patient Safety and Experience (QPSE) teams to execute objectives and key results and ensure adoption of Institute-based quality systems and metrics to drive quality improvement work within a market.
Align specialty service lines quality goals with Institute quality goals and objectives. Support local market QPSE initiatives from market leadership teams. Ensure market achieves specialty standards for patient experience within market footprint.
Assure regulatory requirements (TJC, AHCA, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, etc.) are met. Collaborate with the governing body, management, medical staff and clinical staff in planning, promoting and conducting department performance assessments and improvements.
On behalf of the Executive Director, help drive clinical and operational standards across Cleveland Clinic.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration or related field
Seven years of progressively responsible experience, including supervisory experience
Excellent analytical and business acumen
Strong verbal and written communication
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s degree (may substitute for two years of experience)
Healthcare Clinical service line experience, preferably with Orthopedic Surgery
