SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:
In collaboration with clinical and project teams, design and execute translational medicine programs for early and late-stage clinical trials. Provide scientific input and manage team responsible for data collection, analysis, and interpretation of results from biomarker studies, and effectively engage with cross-functional teams to share results both internally and externally. Collaporate with discovery research to provide feedback and translational medicine support programs for early stage programs. Providing scientific leadership is an essential part of this role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the development and implementation of translational medicine programs for company sponsored clinical studiesRepresent the translational medicine function in cross-functional development teamsWork cross-functionally within Exelixis, and partners with external collaborators and vendors, to execute translational medicine studiesWrite and review translational medicine aspects of clinical documents (e.g., protocols, informed consents, etc).Identify appropriate assays and vendors to perform analysis of biomarker samplesEnsure biomarker testing is completed on schedule, and critically analyzes and interprets results from these studiesCommunicate biomarker results to internal teams and managementEngage with investigators to plan translational medicine programs and share resultsCollaborate with discovery research to develop and execute nonclinical translational medicine programsEnsure completion of translational medicine activitiesIdentify and manage studies with contract research organizationsSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises employees/teamWork with direct reports to design and implement translational medicine programsProvide scientific and strategic input to direct reportsMay indirectly supervises employee(s) through a dotted line structureEDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Education/Experience:
Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and a minimum of twelve years related experience; or,Equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience/The Ideal for Successful Entry into Job:
PhD in related discipline and a minimum of 7 years of translational medicine experience in mid or large size oncology drug discovery organizations or academiaExperience successfully working with cross-functional teamsKnowledge/Skills:
Experience in designing, implementing, and publishing both nonclinical and clinical translational medicine programsProven track record of successFamiliar with specimen types and relevant platform technologies used to investigate mechanisms of response and resistance to oncology therapeuticsScientific and strategic leader with strong analytical and communication skillsAbility to identify and prioritize key deliverables for complex programsFamiliarity on the discovery and clinical development processWORKING CONDITIONS:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this position is $241,000 - $342,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate’s geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors.In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts.
