What you’ll be doing

Working under the direction of the Senior Vice President, Transactional Banking, the Senior Director, Business Strategy, Management and Effectiveness will be responsible for supporting the Transactional Bank (TB) activities with direct accountability for the TB Cash Management and Trade Sales, the TB Product and Digital groups, the TB middle office functions (e.g. client onboarding and service),  the Business Applications team,  all TB coordination activities with internal partners and stakeholders and supporting the SVP with all TB related matters, as assigned. 

You will provide leadership in the planning, coordination, assessment, development and implementation of key strategic, business management, and effectiveness initiatives in support of the business. You will act as the internal representative of the SVP and possess the highest level of integrity, with proven experience communicating across diverse audiences and is well equipped to provide counsel to senior executives. This role involves significant cross-functional responsibilities, including but not limited to coordination and collaboration with several internal stakeholders (products, technology, operations, risk, infrastructure, AML, Fraud, sales, call centres, and Lines of Business, etc.) and external stakeholders (vendors, partners, government bodies, etc.). This includes conducting research or briefings on a variety of topics, coordinating or crafting communications, organizing and preparing for key meetings and/or business events, and leading or supporting key enterprise initiatives. 

You will support value realization, sustainment, and ongoing effectiveness of the business and strategic organizational initiatives by adopting effective change management and project management practices and processes.

You will work closely with TB leaders and employees to understand their needs and the needs of their clients and Banking applications support. The team also partners with groups across the Bank to ensure that any new initiatives impacting TB clients or employees are launched as seamlessly as possible. You will enhance the Business Banking client experience by providing support for employees of Business Banking through programs that improve employee effectiveness by building capability, knowledge, and confidence. This role is focused on planning, initiation, process redesign and re-engineering, delivery and maintenance of programs, associated with building employee effectiveness to support efforts in delivering against our client value proposition and achieving business plans.

How you'll succeed

Business Management and Strategic Support Strategy Development – Support the annual strategic planning and project planning for Business Banking and develop strategic materials, presentations, and internal communication messages on behalf of the SVP.Planning and Communications – Prepare one-on-one materials for meetings with key stakeholders and clients, and prepare pre-briefing notes for meetings.Prepare business proposals, reports, analysis, plans and presentations, including recommendations regarding strategic projects, initiatives and assignments.Coordination of financials and data analytics with the relevant groups to develop dashboards and reports tailored to TB needs.Promote an environment where innovative solutions are employed to ensure efficient, timely problem resolution, which meet business needs and regulatory requirements.Liaise with internal and external clients (as applicable) to solicit input into the development of new or enhanced business processes.Foster relationships with interface departments to promote teamwork and inter-departmental support by acting as a single point of contact for groups within the department.

Operational and Sales Effectiveness and Support and Execution of projects and programsDirection and Support – Support projects, programs and initiatives on behalf of the SVP related to the efficiency and improvement of client support to our business banking clients, including process improvement initiatives.Develop a strong understanding of the strategic direction of Business Banking through research and analysis from a variety of sources.Provide data point summaries to the SVP to assist in ensuring the plans are in alignment with the overall Personal and Business Banking strategy and priorities.Establish a tracking and follow-up system for key meeting deliverables for the group and provide necessary review, follow-up and reporting.Conduct research, evaluate and provide recommendations based on comprehensive analysis and evaluate alternatives presented with their associated benefits and risks.Manage the overall consolidation of the project roadmap for the team relative to the strategic priorities.Through a strong understanding of both the client and employee experience, ensure that all internal processes are well understood and are periodically being reviewed and challenged, with a view to ensure smooth, swift and effective execution by our teams in support of our clients’ needs;Liaise and coordinate with both internal (Technology, Ops, AML, Fraud, Legal, Compliance, etc.) and external stakeholders (Vendors, Consultants, Industry Experts, Government bodies, etc.) to inform the best approach and solutions are being provided to TB employees.

Operational and Regulatory Compliance and coordination with Business Controls for all Compliance, Risk, Audit, AML, Fraud and Regulatory mattersInterface with Business Controls, Governance, Regulatory Affairs, Audit and other internal partners to ensure TB remains compliant with all regulatory and other obligations.Participate in remediation activities stemming from risk items, deficiencies, audits and any other sources, to ensure prompt, effective and sustainable remediation of gaps, both backward and forward looking, as appropriate.Proactively identify, report and self-assess any gaps pertaining to TB processes, procedures, products, services and other (digital and other) solutions.

LeadershipEstablish a two-way working relationship with employees to solicit their views on the working environment, potential changes affecting their work, continuous improvement opportunities, and revisions to the plan.Set appropriate context and establish prescribed limits for employees, including setting an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work in the group.Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision and values.Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.Build and sustain a team who is capable of delivering the performance required for all aspects of the Business Effectiveness team. This includes coaching and the creation and implementation of training and development plans.Establish and optimize team integration by articulating the linkages between the accountabilities and authorities of different roles across the group and by establishing the context in which they will work collaboratively with one another.Apply the Bank's performance management system to employees, including establishing goals and objectives, assessing skilled knowledge gaps, allocating resources to achieve objectives and close gaps, assessing personal effectiveness, and reviewing and recommending base and variable pay.Ensure the effective implementation of Bank initiatives and programs through the establishment of appropriate context and setting of direction for employees by providing relevant information and establishing goals.

Relationship ManagementBuild sufficient industry market expertise across the team to effectively establish the role as a trusted strategic partner in the industry who is called upon by customers and industry market groups to provide advice and guidance that impacts the overall business direction, resolving issues and inquiries as necessary. The team is to actively relationship manage key industry market influencers and leaders, both current and future.Manage on-going activities of, and maintain close relationships with internal and external partners to support data gathering related to quantitative analysis and insights, business case and strategy development and monitoring of Business Banking initiatives.Develop viable business strategies to assist line personnel in achieving an increased share of the strategic niche market, participating in the development of the recommendation of short and longer term marketing plans including preparation and monitoring of business acquisition objectives.
