The senior designer for merchandise will contribute to designing, concepting and curating product collections for the Starbucks brand. They will work with cross-functional internal teams and external agencies in the development process of merchandise, creation of product and art direct concepts across a wide-range of channels and markets. 

This designer will bring an inspiring, team-first attitude, comfortable collaborating, all while pitching concepts and guiding the ideas of others into brilliant and impactful creative assets. They will leverage their deep background in trend, form / product design, graphic & brand design, and retail experience, to bring the Starbucks brand to life in innovative ways, while ensuring we show up consistently and effectively for our customers. While industrial design is not the focus of this role, understanding of special form, material and texture is important.

As a senior designer of merchandise, you will…

Lead and participate in creative concepting, art direction and execution of world-class creative, with a focus on merchandise design and the ability to work within a range of designing individual products to curating multi-sku collections. Be an innovative and strategic thinking who exhibits a relentless creative thought process and ability to show problem solving Have impeccable design, aesthetic and trend-forward sensibilities. Presents creative work to internal teams, cross-functional partners, and external agencies – clearly articulating creative rationale and strategic foundation Collaborate with cross-functional team members of designers, writers, visual merchandisers, project managers Strong leadership and time management skills for supporting the development of multiple projects at once. Have the ability to receive and respond to constructive feedback, as well as delivering feedback to strengthen the work and inspire creative teams and agencies

We’d love to hear from people with:

Mastery of Design principles (color theory, composition, layout principles, and typography) Skilled at graphics file creation optimized for print, merchandise and packaging Interprets current trends, fashion, competition, and culture and applies it with a keen eye for shaping aesthetics and detail An understanding of integrated marketing and its various components A compelling portfolio of work with a range of creative projects Excellent presentation skills Proven strength in problem analysis and creative problem-solving Great communication and collaborative skills Excellent time management skills and team-oriented with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines Proficient in Mac programs Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Acrobat, and Creative Cloud. Proficient in programs like Procreate, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Opal, and Figma

In addition to minimum skills:

+5 years experience concepting, curating and designing merchandise, or ability to demonstrate similar skill (brand / branding, system design, packaging design) +5 years experience with a creative agency or in-house creative team Knowledge & working ability in 3D rendering programs, a plus Understanding of form and industrial design, a plus Understanding of fashion and its seasonal cadence, a plus

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above.  For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

 

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.  At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
