Job DescriptionJob Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer - Gases for semiconductor and battery fabrication (FAB) facilities. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in design of specialty gas systems, bulk gas plants and cryogenic gas systems. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards including environmental, safety, operational standards and driving innovative solutions for process efficiency and cost optimization.
Responsibilities:
Process Design & Optimization:
Lead design in development of bulk- and specialty gas systems along concept-, basic- and detailed design stages.Design of components of plants and piping with focus on storage and distribution of gases.Specification of treatment systems, components and piping distribution.Monitoring and optimization of project management KPI related to the technical system (timeline, cost, quality).Identify and mitigate process bottlenecks through continuous improvement initiatives.Equipment & Technology Integration:
Ensure system integration using BIM tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks) to coordinate third-party designs with other facility systems and control platforms (e.g., PLC, SCADA).Setting up cost calculations for bids to customers.Assess and recommend equipment for the semiconductor utility systems based on process needs.Compliance & Standards:
Enforce safety and compliance by overseeing the implementation of protocols for hazardous and cryogenic gases in accordance with applicable codes and standards.Ensure adherence to industry regulations SEMI, ISO, OSHA, EPA, NFPA etc.Knowledge of applicable International standards and local country standards.Collaboration & Coordination:
Collaborate across teams—including external designers, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders—to ensure gas system designs meet facility needs and project timelines.Presentation, coordination and clarification of planning results and space requirements with the team and the customer.Coordinating with vendors for equipment testing, and managing risks to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.Technical project management also in the execution stage including coordination of interfaces.Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support training initiatives.Project Documentation:
Understanding the requirements and prepare technical documentation, DBR, PFD, P&ID, equipment specifications and reports.Support feasibility studies, cost analysis, and risk assessments for FAB projects.Define System Performance Guarantee Parameters.Vendor evaluation and selection, Vendor Engineering Reviews.Piping Layouts / Piping Distribution, Isometric Drawing preparation, BOQ generations.Process inputs for Control Logics.Assist in commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) of FAB processes.QualificationsExperience & Qualification:
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.15+ years of experience in semiconductor fabrication, process engineering, or related fields.Strong understanding of chemical handling.Experience with process modeling and simulation tools.Strong knowledge of utility design for the semiconductor FABs.Proficient in AutoCAD, airflow simulation tools, and MS OfficeAdditional InformationSoft Skills:
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.Strong communication skills for cross-functional teamwork and client interactions.Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in greenfield and brownfield FAB design.Familiarity with sustainability practices in semiconductor manufacturing.Understanding of local authority regulations for FAB facility approvals and permitting.About AECOM
