Senior Design Engineer – Marine & Structural Fabrication

Are you an experienced mechanical engineer or naval architect who enjoys bringing complex systems to life? Join our growing engineering team in Portland, Oregon, where we specialize in shipbuilding, marine systems, and iron bridge fabrication.
As a Senior Design Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, modeling, and detailing advanced marine and structural systems. You’ll work closely with our VP of Engineering Services and collaborate with production teams to turn designs into real-world solutions. This is an on-site position requiring strong technical expertise and a hands-on approach to solving challenges in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
What You’ll DoLead mechanical and structural design efforts for marine vessels and heavy steel fabrications (e.g., bridges, barges)
Create 3D models, system layouts, and detailed production drawings using AutoCAD and related tools
Ensure accuracy, clarity, and compliance of engineering documentation with industry standards
Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and QA to ensure seamless project execution
Support engineering analysis and help troubleshoot design and production issues
Mentor and guide junior designers and engineers to build team capability
What You BringBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field
Proven experience in mechanical design—preferably in shipbuilding, marine systems, or structural steel fabrication
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD is required; Ship Constructor experience is a big plus
Hands-on experience with 3D modeling and production drawing development
Familiarity with project scheduling and design workflow best practices
Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
Ability to thrive in an in-person, fabrication-heavy environment
