Senior Database and Integration Engineer
Job Description The Senior Database and Integration Engineer is responsible for the oversight, optimization, and support of SQL database systems and all relevant integrations, including Azure-based and on-premises environments. Skills and Requirements Technical Leadership • Maintain accountability for Azure and on-premises SQL databases. • Provide technical leadership to ensure database availability, optimization, and security, including mentoring junior team members, defining technical standards, and leading key database and integration projects. • Design, implement, and maintain cloud-based and on-premises database systems. Database Security • Implement and maintain robust security measures across Azure and traditional SQL databases, adhering to compliance standards and cloud security best practices. Provisioning and Maintenance • Provision SQL servers, instances, databases, and user logins following best practices. • Apply best practices for maintaining, updating, and decommissioning database systems. High Availability and Disaster Recovery • Design and implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) procedures, including SQL Always-on configurations and expertise in business continuity technologies, backups, and disaster recovery solutions. • Contribute to disaster recovery plans and ensure integration with business continuity strategies. Data Integration Development • Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data pipelines using tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and Intapp Integration Builder. • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize ETL pipelines and integration processes for performance, scalability, and reliability, addressing any data quality or consistency issues. • Implement and enforce data governance, security, and compliance standards within all data integration solutions, particularly for cloud and on-premises environments. • Maintain detailed documentation of all data integration workflows, processes, and system architecture. System Monitoring and Optimization • Proactively monitor database health, respond to alerts, and troubleshoot issues. • Conduct query tuning, performance analysis, and optimization. • Regularly review system capacity and ensure compliance. Operational Support • Provide third-line application and database administration support. • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues in a 24x7 support environment. • Manage platform upgrades, patches, and updates. • Maintain detailed documentation of workflows, processes, and system architecture. Skills and Competencies Technical Skills • Expertise in Microsoft Azure SQL Database, SQL Managed Instances, and traditional SQL Server. • Proficiency in Azure IaaS and PaaS technologies (e.g., Virtual Servers, Logic Apps, Azure Monitor). • Advanced skills in query tuning, and performance troubleshooting. • Advanced knowledge of PowerShell scripting. • Knowledge of integration tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and Intapp Integration Builder. • Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure Entra ID, and related technologies. • Strong understanding of Cloud Security Best Practices, particularly within Azure environments. • Proficiency in Solution Architecture and Architectural Design Principles for scalable and resilient systems. • Expertise with business continuity technologies, including backups and disaster recovery. Professional Skills • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. • Ability to build effective relationships with internal teams and external vendors. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Education, Experience, and Certifications • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. • Minimum of 8 years of experience with SQL Server in enterprise production environments. • Azure Database Administrator Associate, DP-300. • ITIL certification and practical experience are highly valued. • Familiarity with Big Data and alternative databases (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL) is a plus. • Experience supporting standard legal systems (e.g., iManage DMS, Elite, InterAction). • Knowledge of SOC2, ISO 27001, and Cyber Essentials standards.
