Job Description
Role Purpose
This role provides senior legal support for the operationalization and scaling of AI across AbbVie, with a focus on enterprise AI use cases, commercial transactions, and governance processes. The position exists to enable efficient, consistent, and risk-aligned deployment of AI technologies across the organization.
Scope & Impact
Enterprise scope supporting high-volume AI deployment and adoption across business functionsLeads legal support for AI-related commercial transactions and operational processesPlays a key role in scaling AI governance frameworks and intake processes (e.g., ACTOR)Serves as a senior legal advisor to business and functional stakeholdersIndividual contributor role with broad cross-functional engagementCore Duties & Responsibilities
Provide senior legal support for AI-enabled use cases across all business functions, including commercial, R&D, and enterprise productivity toolsConduct and oversee legal risk assessments at scale, including:Data privacy and data governance risksIntellectual property and licensing considerationsRegulatory and compliance implicationsDraft, review, and negotiate complex AI-related commercial agreements, including:SaaS and AI vendor agreementsData licensing and use agreementsAI-enabled service and platform agreementsLead development and implementation of:Standard AI contracting templates and fallback positionsEnterprise playbooks for AI procurement and vendor engagementPartner with Legal Operations and Governance teams to:Scale and optimize AI intake and review processes (e.g., ACTOR, workflow tools)Improve efficiency and consistency in legal reviewProvide senior-level guidance and training to business stakeholders on AI legal risks and best practicesEscalate and coordinate resolution of high-risk or complex issues with AI Legal leadership
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) and active bar membershipMinimum 5+ years of legal experienceSignificant experience in commercial contracting and technology transactionsStrong expertise in data privacy, IP, and SaaS agreementsProven ability to manage complex, high-volume legal workflowsPreferred Qualifications
8+ years of legal experience preferredExperience with AI/ML technologies or digital platformsPrior in-house experience in a large, matrixed organizationFamiliarity with enterprise governance and workflow toolsSkills & Competencies
Strong business judgment and pragmatic legal approachAdvanced contract negotiation and issue-spotting skillsAbility to operate at scale in a fast-paced environmentStrong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder managementClear and effective communication skillsAdditional Information

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
