Job Description
Position Summary
Under little supervision, the Control Hardware Engineer is responsible for design, analysis, test, release and support of industrial variable frequency motor drives products, consistent with company and industry standards for quality, safety and reliability while optimizing cost and manufacturability. This position works closely with the regional and global design engineering team as part of a cross functional team and will be mainly involved in hardware related design projects for motor drive products.
Key Responsibilities
Be a highly technical individual to participate in a product engineering team in the design, analysis, modification, or enhancement of variable frequency motor drives. Work to meet cost, performance, and schedule requirements.Provide design specification, define the test requirement, and perform qualification test in support of product cost reduction program, strategic sourcing opportunities, product obsolescence replacements, manufacturing issues and any other product design changesCreate electrical designs, schematics, layouts, and simulations for embedded control systems incorporating FPGAs, microcontrollers, DSP, analog and digital signal processing, motor control, linear and switching power supplies, and sensor/motor feedback acquisition. Example subsystems include FPGA/DSP/MCU hardware and related dual port design, high speed memory interface, functional safety circuit design, motor voltage/current sampling and protecting, motor speed/position feedback circuit (incremental encoder, SIN/COS encoder, digital encoder, etc.), PWM control, network communication hardware design (Ethernet/ control-net/ device-net or CAN/SCANport), fiber interface, etc.Create electrical designs, schematics, layouts, and simulations for power systems incorporating power device application, motor control, linear and switching power supplies, and sensor/motor feedback acquisition. Example subsystems include design related to power, high voltage, IGBTs, SCR, Bus Cap, analog Circuits, SMPS, thermal, AC/DC magnetics and LCL filter design, EMC, test & troubleshooting, etc. Generate design documentation to ensure the delivery of a quality finished product such as requirements documents, functional block diagrams, verification and validation test plans and results, qualification test plans and reports, and product user and maintenance manuals.Generate design documentation to ensure the delivery of a quality finished product such as requirements documents, functional block diagrams, verification and validation test plans and results, qualification test plans and reports, and product user and maintenance manuals.Perform root cause failure analysis, analyze complex malfunctioning electrical and electro-mechanical circuits or systems and satisfactorily design and test a solution for the malfunction. Guide and/or conduct testing to regulatory agency, internal standards, and international standards. Facilitate design reviews with key stakeholders including Design Engineering, Quality Engineering, Certification Engineering and Manufacturing/Industrialization Engineering.Utilize and interpret the following (not limited to) test and development instrumentation:Emulator/toolkits for FPGA/DSP/MCU, Digital oscilloscopes/Logic analyzer, Surge/Fast Transient Tester, EMC receiver, LCR meters, Tachometers, Torque transducers, Power supplies, Plotters, Spectrum analyzers, Dynamometers, and Environmental Chambers.Define and participate in the Engineering Lab improvement activities.EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE
M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or Embedded Systems.5+ years of experience in dealing with embedded hardware for industrial automation products, hands-on knowledge of analog and digital signal processing, FPGA/DSP/MCU related hardware designs and implementation.Experience on power electronics products - motor drives, power supply etc. is preferred.Experience on schematic entry and board layout tools such as Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Mentor Graphics PADS and Altium Designer is preferred. Familiar with high-speed circuit signal integration analysis and simulation tool is a plus.Experience on drive control system simulation is a plus (tools e.g. Simplorer, Pspice or Matlab).Experience on FPGA code design and simulation is a plus (tools e.g. Quartus II, ModelSim). Familiar with PLC electrical control system and basic ladder diagram programming knowledge.Familiar with CAN/SCAN protocol, industry Ethernet protocol or other industry communication protocol.Experience on engineering document control and familiar with product documentation through the requirements of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems or SAP is desired.
