In Australia, we operate a select, highly skilled, internationally diverse engineering team, providing engineering and program advisory services to Australia's naval programs, and maritime autonomy system development. Our team holds expertise across program management, naval architecture, marine engineering, systems engineering, integrated logistics support.
We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior to Principal level Commercial Manager to join our team at Leidos Gibbs & Cox Australia. This role provides senior commercial management support to a major naval project. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to innovative solutions within the sector.
The position requires the following high-level attributes:
Strong track record in commercial management activities including scope development, commercial negotiation, and contract management
Strong experience with major contracts in the Defence sector
Strong stakeholder engagement, executive engagement, and relationship building skills
Ability to conceive and mature creative approaches to challenging problems
Skilled in coordinating complex initiatives with a focus on timely and impactful execution
Important / desirable attributes:
Experience operating from both commonwealth and contractor perspectives and positions
An ability to mentor and share experience and lessons with the project team membership to build commercial skills and capabilities in the project team
Responsibilities
The position will include the following responsibilities:
Identify and represent commercial interests, and advise principals on commercial risks and issues
Develop, propose, explain and implement commercial strategies to achieve the operational objectives of the project
Work with counterparty commercial / contract team and facilitate support to the development of scopes of work and contract changes
Support the development and assessment of contract changes and relevant scopes and technical deliverables
Provide professional leadership and mentoring in the project commercial team to develop team capabilities and effectiveness

The successful applicant is required to hold a valid NV1 security clearance or have the ability to obtain and maintain a valid security clearance as well as other mandatory background checks including a National Police check.
