Senior Commercial Manager – Delivery & Disputes - Buildings & Places market

Overview

This role sits within the B&P team of AtkinsRéalis, which offers diverse services to its clients. We require a driven and experienced Senior Commercial Manager with a strong background in design/engineering consultancy, able to ‘hit the ground running’ and support B&P’s ambitious strategy.

Joining the current commercial team, the successful applicant will support the team with a wide-range of commercial tasks including dispute prevention and resolution.

Your role

Be an active member of the B&P Commercial team, providing commercial, governance, and dispute-prevention support to colleagues throughout the project life cycle.Contribute to decision-making and identify business improvement opportunities, fostering an enhanced commercial culture within design and technical teams.Undertake commercial reviews of Appointments/Frameworks/Call-off/task order opportunities, with a focus on identifying potential areas of contractual risk or dispute.Input into the business risk and opportunities register regularly, with particular attention to design-related claims, emerging disputes, and technical challenges.Ensure contract and project reviews are undertaken in line with business policies and procedures, highlighting early warning signs of claims or contentious issues.Provide support to design teams, working closely with the legal team (including the litigation team) where required, to resolve issues before they escalate into formal disputes.Participate in raising commercial awareness and performance within the business, including best practices for managing claims and mitigating disputes. Assist with Pre-Contract Activities including:Tracking head contracts from receipt of service request through to award.Ensuring submission of service proposals passes through governance processes.Ensuring robust back to back supplier agreements are established.Provide contractual support to project teams to ensure:Compliance with contractual obligations.Minimised risk exposure and proactive dispute avoidance.Preservation of contractual entitlements.

About you


Essential criteria:

Proven ability and track record in the majority of the following:Strong understanding of design processes and technical deliveryExperience working in multidisciplinary design teams, and dealing with design and build contractorsAbility to interpret technical scopes and specifications from a commercial perspectiveProject management, organisational and investigative skills; Ability to simplify complex concepts.Solutions-focused approach to achieve quick, positive outcomes during tendering, contract discussions, or emerging disputes.Commercial management and governanceProactive engagement in risk identification, evaluation, and mitigation, including early intervention on potential claims.Proven capability of working in a collaborative environment with a strong teamwork ethos.Strong drive with sound judgement. Quickly establishes credibility and sphere of influence.Experience drafting contractual correspondence, including letters relating to claims or contentious matters.

What we are looking for you to demonstrate:

Preferably experience within a similar role in design consultancy.Knowledge of internal governance processes.A working knowledge standard forms of contract particularly NEC.Good Commercial awareness in technical environments.Familiarity with dispute resolution mechanisms and claims management principles.Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment.Excellent communication skills including clear articulation of positions in potential dispute scenarios.

Desirable criteria:

Background in engineering consultancy or design-led project environmentsGood grasp of contract lawKnowledge of contractual documents including NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, sub- and head contracts used in a consulting environment

Security clearance

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
