We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Substation Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and delivery of civil works supporting high-voltage substations up to 400 kV. This role focuses on the civil engineering aspects of substation infrastructure, including site development, earthworks, access roads, drainage, grading, paving, fencing, and foundation interfaces.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in substation civil engineering and is proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation for detailed design and drawing development. The position requires the ability to manage complete civil design packages, provide mentorship, and collaborate with structural and electrical disciplines to deliver safe, efficient, and constructible substation civil designs for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
Job DescriptionHere is what you will do:
1. Civil Design & Site Development
Lead the design of site grading, earthworks, roads, drainage, fencing, and pavement layouts for substations up to 400 kV.
Perform stormwater management, and erosion control design in compliance with local and international standards.
Develop civil drawings including site layouts, grading plans, drainage layouts, road details, and civil general arrangements using AutoCAD and MicroStation.
Coordinate foundation interface details for major electrical equipment such as transformers, GIS/AIS equipments, and control buildings.
Integrate civil design with structural, electrical, and geotechnical inputs, ensuring full alignment with substation layout requirements and site constraints.
2. Leadership & Project Management
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to civil engineers and CAD designers.
Manage project deliverables, schedules, and budgets for civil engineering scopes of work.
Support tendering, cost estimation, and proposal preparation for civil engineering packages.
Represent the civil engineering discipline in client meetings, design reviews, and coordination workshops.
3. Construction & Field Support
Provide technical support during construction, RFI responses, and review of contractor submissions.
Conduct constructability and feasibility reviews to ensure civil designs are practical, safe, and cost-effective.
Support inspection, testing, and as-built verification of civil works.
Liaise with contractors, site supervisors, and project managers to ensure design intent is met.
4. Documentation & Quality Assurance
Prepare and review civil calculation reports, bills of quantities, material specifications, and construction documentation.
Ensure all designs comply with company QA/QC procedures, client standards, and safety regulations.
Participate in peer reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, and internal audits to maintain high-quality deliverables.
5. Innovation & Standards Development
Assess and integrate new design methods, software tools, and sustainable materials to improve efficiency and environmental performance.
Stay updated with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in civil substation engineering.
QualificationsHere’s what we’re looking for:
Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
Minimum 6+ years of experience in civil design for HV/MV substations (up to 400 kV preferred).
Proven experience with site grading, drainage, roads, earthworks, and substation layout development.
Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation for civil design and detailing.
Strong knowledge of international civil and design standards (IEC, BS, Eurocodes, IEEE, ANSI etc.).
Solid understanding of substation site planning, access requirements, and integration with electrical layouts.
Preferred:
Experience with construction supervision, site inspection, and commissioning support.
Knowledge of hydrological analysis tools, stormwater modeling, or civil 3D/BIM software.
Experience in GIS or AIS substation developments.
Familiarity with major utility or transmission operator standards.
Professional Engineer (PE) status
