Job Description:
The Senior Buyer is responsible for maintaining relationships with internal departments and suppliers, focusing on quality, delivery, and cost processes. The role supports the transition of new product production and ensures the timely execution of purchasing tasks.
Responsibilities:
+ Communicate regularly with engineering, planning, and warehouse departments.
+ Lead daily purchasing meetings to address parts issues, quality concerns, and supplier issues.
+ Collaborate with the Supply Chain Manager on cost reduction, inventory reduction, and quality improvement initiatives.
+ Assist in the Engineering Change Orders (ECO) process from initiation to completion.
+ Coordinate with Engineering to address system and Bill of Materials (BOM) issues.
+ Identify problem areas, initiate corrective actions, and establish problem resolution dates.
+ Mentor and support the continued education and training of junior buyers.
+ Issue purchase orders and ensure timely material delivery while maintaining quality standards.
+ Work with suppliers to mitigate delivery issues and communicate these to relevant departments.
+ Resolve and justify all purchase price variances (PPV).
+ Collaborate with the Quality department to resolve supplier issues related to First Article (FA) and projects.
+ Support other buyers with challenging requests and quotes.
+ Recommend planning parameters based on lead time, economic order quantity, and minimum order quantity.
+ Support Customer Service and Production teams.
+ Back up the Supply Chain Manager as needed.
Essential Skills:
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience as a Senior Buyer.
+ 7 years of experience in purchasing and acquisition.
+ 3 years of manufacturing experience.
+ 3 years of New Product Introduction experience.
+ 3 years of ECO experience.
+ Experience with commodity sourcing and ERP implementation.
+ Familiarity with technical data sheets, material data sheets, and part drawings.
+ Strong verbal and written communication, team building, and analytical skills.
+ Demonstrated negotiation skills and the ability to foster positive supplier relationships.
+ Problem-solving skills and the ability to make effective decisions.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
+ Proficient in MS Office applications and purchasing/accounting processes.
Work Environment:
The role is based in a building that includes sales, accounting, supply chain, and some engineering departments. The Senior Buyer will work closely with the engineering team to address ECOs and NPIs, requiring almost daily meetings. Communication with planning and warehouse teams is also a daily necessity. The department comprises a Procurement Manager and a team of buyers, reporting to the COO. Flexible working hours are required, with some mandatory nightly meetings with our division.
Job Type & Location:
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newberg, Oregon.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $44.00/hr.
