Senior Business Systems Analyst
Job Description As a Senior Business Systems Analyst, you will lead highly complex business and systems initiatives across the organization, applying advanced analytical expertise to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions. In this role, you will evaluate existing business practices, analyze system gaps, and design or modify sophisticated processes, data structures, and software configurations. You will create detailed functional specifications, validate requirements, and guide design decisions that support both immediate and long-term operational goals. Your work spans full lifecycle activities including requirements definition, user interface design, and planning and execution of unit, integration, and end-user acceptance testing. You will drive end-to-end testing for critical UCPath PeopleSoft HCM authentication changes, ensuring continuity of key employee workflows such as Direct Deposit and Contact Details across UC locations. Additionally, you will define exception handling flows, consent language, operational support models, and business rules that align with labor, privacy, academic personnel, and legal compliance requirements. You’ll collaborate closely with technical teams, testing partners, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve defects, support extended test cycles, and ensure secure, performant, and employee-centric solutions. As a senior member of the team, you will mentor other analysts, contribute to process improvements, prepare procedural documentation, and occasionally lead cross-functional teams to resolve complex business or system issues. Skills and Requirements 8+ years of PeopleSoft experience, including deep functional knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM and UCPath business processes. Expertise in Direct Deposit, Contact Details, Security Questions, onboarding flows, and understanding how authentication changes impact payroll, benefits, and employee access. Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end testing, including risk-based authentication workflows, exception handling validation, and release readiness. Advanced skills in business/process analysis, requirements documentation, and system design across large, complex organizations. Strong experience with process and systems methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile, Agile Scrum, UML, and Use Case/User Story documentation. Ability to design and implement operational support models, escalation paths, training needs, and staffing assumptions tied to authentication or access changes. Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical topics for non-technical audiences at all organizational levels. Strong facilitation skills to drive stakeholder alignment across UCPath, UCOP ITS, vendors, Centers of Excellence, and campus partners. Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, solve complex problems, and collaborate across diverse groups. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Experience partnering with Legal, Privacy, Labor Relations, and Academic Personnel to translate policy requirements into system design, consent flows, and operational processes. Experience anticipating employee impact, reducing friction in authentication or access workflows, and ensuring continuity for legally required information. Background designing system changes for identity, authentication, or access management within PeopleSoft HCM or similar platforms. Experience supporting or leading cross-functional teams within complex organizations such as university systems, medical centers, or public-sector entities.
