Worker Type: Employee

Job Post End Date: 02/19/2026

About this opportunity:

The Business Development Advisor plays a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and advancing high-value opportunities across the Canadian Thermal and Conventional Heavy Oil (CTHCO) portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, commercial execution, and asset optimization, with a strong emphasis on M&A, competitive intelligence, regulatory dynamics, and value‑add commercial alternatives. The ideal candidate combines strong commercial and financial acumen with a solid understanding of SAGD and heavy oil development, influencing outcomes through collaboration, insight, and disciplined execution.

What you’ll do:

Identify and advance portfolio enhancement opportunities through external environment scanning, competitive intelligence, and analysis of nonroutine risks and opportunities.

Develop and present clear, data-driven opportunity evaluations, outlining benefits, risks, and tradeoffs to support executive decision making.

Partner with Corporate Development, Land A&D, and cross‑functional teams to progress evaluations, negotiations, and transactions.

Generate financial and economic analyses to quantify value, assess risk, and support inorganic growth and strategic responses to competitive or regulatory pressures.

Lead or support negotiations with external counterparties, applying structured strategies, incentive mapping, and BATNA assessments.

Facilitate area‑based inorganic and commercial reviews, integrating development, operations, land, and A&D perspectives to inform portfolio strategy.

Work closely with asset development teams to enhance long‑term asset value while balancing commercial, technical, and operational drivers.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

Legally authorized to work in Canada

Bachelor’s degree in business, commerce, or engineering.

Minimum of 8 years of experience in oil and gas, bringing strong commercial, financial and strategic expertise. Experience within SAGD or heavy oil operations would be an asset.

Highly persuasive and credible, able to articulate business cases and tailor messaging to technical teams, leadership, partners, and regulators.

Data-driven and analytically strong, with advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and industry evaluation tools such as Mosaic, ValNav, ARES/Enersight (or equivalents), Wood Mackenzie, Rystad, and IHS.

A confident negotiator who understands counterparty motivations and prepares disciplined, value‑focused negotiation strategies.

We acknowledge the value of transferable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

Note: The application deadline for this position is 11:59 PM MT February 18, 2026.
