Senior Bat Biologist - Bat Program Lead

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Bat Biologist with with demonstrated experience in the renewable energy industry to join our team. We are looking for an individual with enthusiasm for their work, and with a strong commitment to client service and technical excellence. This position will serve a leadership role in the environmental services group and will closely collaborate with the Wildlife Manager to grow Westwood’s bat practice from within the Wildlife Team. 

Duties and Responsibilities Strengthen and diversify the bat and PCMM services provided by the Wildlife Team by creating and improving SOPs and reporting structures, building a team, mentoring staff, and utilizing rock-solid science and statisticsDesign and conduct bat acoustic and mist net surveysDesign and oversee post construction mortality monitoring studiesContribute to the development of bat-specific habitat conservation plans and incidental take permit applicationsDraft proposals and work plansContribute to innovation initiatives and primary scientific research associated with the renewable energy industry and/or bat biologyParticipate in regulatory meetings to support the planning, design, and approval of renewable energy and transmission projectsNavigate and advise on Endangered Species Act complianceTrack and participate in developing wildlife guidance initiativesPrepare wildlife assessment work plansThe position will be primarily office-based but will involve periodic travel, typically 4-5 days per trip Required Experience Master’s Degree in biology, GIS, or other data science related field10-20 years of wildlife assessment experienceUSFWS Permitted Bat BiologistTechnical proficiency in bat studiesStrong analytic and statistical abilitiesStrong GIS abilitiesWorking knowledge of state and federal regulationsFamiliarity with US Fish and Wildlife Land Based Wind Energy GuidelinesExperience with wind energy pre- and post-construction monitoring protocols is desiredExperience with NEPA process for various federal agencies is desired Compensation Range Minimum USD $90,000.00/Yr.
