About Global Merchant and Network Product Team

The Global Merchant and Network Product team is at the heart of American Express. Each year, we power billions of transactions through our global payments network, serving our Issuing & Acquiring partners in more than 170 markets worldwide. We grow revenue by driving strategic, multi-year initiatives to deliver differentiated value to our merchants, partners, and customers.

 

The Global Merchant and Network Capability Delivery team works to deliver digital products and services for merchants, network acquirers and issuers, and payment facilitators such as ATM/debit, point of sale authorizations & submissions, transaction pricing, disputes and settlement that meet the evolving demands of our global payment network. The wide range of solutions we develop enable the enterprise to attract new customers, operate in new markets, react to regulatory demands, and process new/emerging types of payments. A role in this team will challenge you to broaden your business solution design, agile product, data stewardship, quality assurance and operational readiness skills while incorporating an industry perspective in a collaborative, diverse and inclusive team environment.

 

About the role

We are seeking a talented Product Owner to join the Global Merchant and Network product team to design, develop, and manage Acquiring products from planning through production, release, and end-of-life. You will partner with stakeholder teams to enhance and refine product strategies and roadmaps. This role serves as the central point of coordination across design, process, development, testing, quality, and marketing throughout all stages of the product lifecycle. You will manage and prioritize the features backlog by incorporating direct input from customers, analysts, developers, and architects, along with deep domain knowledge. Additionally, you will facilitate the resolution of risks, issues, and changes related to the product development lifecycle. You will work alongside high-performing product, process, and engineering teams. The ideal candidate has a passion for both technology and business strategy, with a strong awareness of industry trends. In partnership with cross-functional teams, you will develop product roadmaps and prioritize features that maximize shareholder value while solving customer problems. Key Job Responsibilities

Define, design and implement solutions for merchant onboarding processes and drive data platform modernization initiatives

Identify product solutions for short term tactical needs and long-term strategy

Deliver tools & capabilities based on customer needs, competitive analysis and market and technology trends

Lead feature and user story definition sessions

Establish acceptance criteria, test strategy, and write user acceptance test cases.

Lead scope prioritization sessions and backlog grooming

Maintain open communication channels with stakeholders, business partners, and technology partners

Collaborates with cross-functional teams including Product, Technology and other adjacent stakeholders to gather and document product requirements and to ensure timely delivery of product features, following agile development methodologies.

Assists in the identification of technical gaps and collaborates with broader teams to facilitate resolution risks, opportunities and changes tied to product management initiatives and processes. Maintain core critical metrics

Support governance processes for assigned product(s)
 

 

Skills & Expertise:

 Bachelors/master's in computer science /computer applications/engineering, MBA or relevant quantitative field.

3+ years of industry experience on Product management

Experience in converting business requirements to tech features

Experience in working with technology as partners and working as one team

Strong understanding of the Product Management lifecycle, with specific application of Scaled Agile delivery

Ability to think globally and drive standardization in processes and capabilities (May be required to "act locally" - governed by compliance, legal, or market-specific requirements)

Proven track record of communication, influence, and leadership without authority

Demonstration of skill in gathering and facilitating definition and clarity on needs translated into high quality features and user stories.

Ability to drive innovation, communicate effectively, and influence without authority are necessary leadership attributes of the successful candidate
