The University of Akron, a Division 1 (FBS) institution and member of the Mid-American Conference, is seeking applicants for the position of Sr. Associate AD for Development-Major Gifts.

The Sr. Associate AD/Major Gifts will be a proven fundraiser with excellent leadership skills who appreciates and nurtures an accountable, goal-oriented and values-based work environment. This role will actively build and manage a strategically focused portfolio of major ($25,000+) and principal gift ($1,000,000+) prospects and donors by guiding their cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, while also setting goals to expand the base of major gift prospects.

The Sr. Associate AD/Major Gifts will build strong and mutually beneficial relationships between academic leadership, faculty and staff and donors, alumni, business, and community leaders. This individual will also manage a full-time annual fund position. The athletic department’s lead fundraiser’s primary focus will be to drive fundraising activity at the major and principal gift levels to support scholarships, programs, facility enhancements and capital projects.

Works in coordination with the Vice President, Advancement and Assistant Vice President, Principal Giving, and other Advancement colleagues. This position will be visible on campus, at Athletics events, and in the greater Akron community and is expected to work a significant number of events throughout the year.

Duties: Secure major and principal gifts for the University from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Create long-term plans and goals for the successful operation of the Major Gifts Program for Athletics. Identify new prospects through sophisticated and nuanced discovery/qualification working closely with prospect development in Advancement. Acknowledge and steward gifts appropriately. Manage one full-time staff member with direct oversight of Z-Fund, the athletic department’s annual fund program. Provide direct oversight and management of the Varsity A Association, the former student-athlete letter winner program. Oversee InfoCision Stadium Suites, including solicitation of new business and securing renewals of existing patrons. Coordinate department-wide special events designed to solicit or cultivate prospects (e.g., Annual Golf Tournament, Athletic Hall of Fame, Homecoming activities). Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Education:

Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree. Master's degree preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:

Valid Driver's License required.

Experience:

Requires a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible work experience in planned giving or major gifts, as well as experience developing programs and campaigns and directing professional and staff employees. Excellent communication and presentation skills, along with the ability to write complex proposals for corporate, foundation, and government grants are required. Knowledge of fundraising, capital campaigns, and development of promotional and public relations materials is also required.
