Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Places Architectural team is seeking a talented Licensed Senior Architect V to join our Oakland office as part of the West Region team.  The Oakland Architectural Group focuses on transportation-oriented projects. This Senior Architect will be working on and leading local and occasionally nationwide transportation projects in the full range of design through construction administration.  This includes Bus and Rail Transit, Zero Emissions Vehicle, and Ports & Marine projects.

AECOM Buildings + Places West is a vibrant fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics, and asset management for design and infrastructure projects.

Job Summary

We are looking for someone with demonstrated experience, creativity, foresight and mature judgment, someone capable of providing technical leadership across our local group. This person will work with the group leader towards the growth of our technical capabilities in the Oakland office, ensuring success through strong collaboration with other market sectors and practice groups.

The primary responsibilities will be to maintain and grow our project workload within the Transportation Architecture sector, overseeing and leading multiple projects and programs through all phases of planning, design, and construction in addition to contributing to major pursuits.

Major Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Assisting the group leader in the planning, organizing, and implementing all design activities for the Oakland Architecture Group across all disciplines.Collaborating with the Los Angeles based Design Director and/or other team members in developing design concepts.Assisting in the mentoring, training and evaluation of our group’s junior architects and designer/drafting personnel.Establishing and sustaining relationships with key partners and consultants to support the Transportation Architecture business.Assisting in the development of proposals and giving presentations to potential clients.Acting as Project Lead Architect on specific strategic/key projects.  Assume full responsibility for the interpretation, organization, execution, and coordination of technical assignments. This includes direct interaction with local design team members, consultants, and clients to communicate design intent and technical details.Provide authoritative architectural guidance, perform precise calculations, conduct thorough analyses, undertake comprehensive studies, and deliver well-founded recommendations within strict project schedules and budgets.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

BA/BS in Architecture + 8 years of related architectural experience, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Licensed Architect in California.

 

Preferred Qualifications

15 years of architectural experience, including 4 years of project discipline leadership

Project production experience. Strong understanding of constructability, proficiency in developing technical details and specification manuals, and a thorough knowledge of building systems and construction detailing.

Advanced technical skills: Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office, Adobe Suite, and Bluebeam Vue.

Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.

Ability to work efficiently and effectively within a dynamic multi-disciplinary in-house team environment.

Expert in Local and National Codes.

Experience designing large and medium-sized building facilities.

Must be a self-motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communication and strong organizational and interpersonal skills and be able to multi-task.

Demonstrated strong creativity in conceptual design and technical design skills.

Strong presentation skills.

Ability to work with various municipalities for permitting and development approvals process.

Participate in AECOM in-house training and qualify to become an AECOM Certified Project Manager and Lead Verifier.
