Senior Applied Scientist - AI Interpreter
The CoreAI Speech Group brings together talents in the areas of signal processing, speech modeling, statistical modeling and deep learning to develop and deliver robust, natural and scalable speech technologies, across a rich set of scenarios and languages. Our interdisciplinary team of scientists and developers work on all aspects of end-to-end speech technologies, including model training and evaluation, data collection, infrastructure, and service deployment. We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist who is passionate about advancing the next generation of speech experiences by developing innovative tools and metrics for comprehensive evaluation of Azure AI services. In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively impact our culture every day. **Responsibilities** + Innovate and develop cutting edge speech enhancement technologies in real-world user scenarios. + Develop and evaluate end-to-end solutions to improve online meeting experiences + Conduct competitor study so as to continuously be aware of our position in the field + Develop and evaluate end-to-end speech translation solutions to improve online multilingual meeting experiences + Stay updated with the latest trends in speech technologies, large language models (LLM), audio processing techniques, and apply knowledge to ongoing projects. **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications:** + Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research) OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) + OR equivalent experience. + 3+ years’ experience in automatic speech recognition or speech translation. + 3+ years’ experience in deep learning model training. **Other Requirements:** Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: + Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. **Preferred Qualifications:** + 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping. + 1+ year(s) experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team. + 3+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings). + Experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker. + 3+ years experience creating publications (e.g., patents, libraries, peer-reviewed academic papers). + Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research) OR equivalent experience. + 2+ years experience presenting at conferences such as Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding (ASRU) International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), Interspeech or other events. research/industry community as an invited speaker. Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
