Senior Application Architect
Position Description:

This role is hybrid and requires you to be at our downtown Toronto and/or Client (250 Yonge Street, Toronto) office at a minimum 3 days per week - subject to change at any time. 

We are seeking a Senior Application Architect to lead the design and evolution of our application ecosystem across both legacy and modern cloud environments. This role will play a key part in shaping the technology direction for mission-critical systems that support our life insurance business, ensuring scalability, integration, and long-term sustainability.

You will collaborate with senior technology leaders, delivery teams, and business stakeholders to define solution architectures, evaluate emerging technologies, and guide teams through transformation initiatives across Java, .NET, NodeJS, React, and Angular platforms deployed on Azure and AWS.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

.    Design, develop, and maintain application architectures spanning on-premise and cloud (Azure / AWS) environments.
.    Lead technology assessments, evaluate frameworks and tools, and recommend optimal solutions aligned with enterprise standards.
.    Define and enforce architecture principles, patterns, and governance practices to ensure alignment with organizational strategy.
.    Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development and solution teams across multiple technology stacks.
.    Collaborate closely with business and IT stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into architectural blueprints and roadmaps.
.    Support both legacy system modernization and greenfield application development using modern frameworks and cloud-native approaches.
.    Ensure designs meet standards for security, scalability, resilience, and performance.
.    Contribute to continuous improvement of architecture practices, reference models, and reusable assets.
.    Participate in SDLC activities across Waterfall and Agile methodologies, adapting architecture deliverables accordingly.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

.    Experience: Minimum 8-12 years of progressive experience in application design, development, and architecture.
.    Domain Knowledge: Experience in Financial Services domain with emphasis on Life Insurance including but not limited to policy administration, underwriting, claims, and customer servicing systems.
.    Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in designing and integrating applications across multiple technology stacks, including:
o    Backend: Java (Spring Boot), .NET Core / Framework, NodeJS
o    Frontend: React, Angular
o    Integration: SOA, REST APIs, messaging frameworks, microservices architecture
.    Cloud Exposure: Hands-on experience architecting and deploying cloud-native solutions in Azure and/or AWS environments, including experience with CI/CD pipelines.
.    Architecture Practices
o    Proficient in modern architecture principles such as domain-driven design, event-driven architectures, and API-first design.
o    Ability to produce high-quality architectural documentation, models, and reusable patterns.
o    Skilled in technology assessments, tool evaluations, and providing recommendations aligned with enterprise standards and long-term roadmap.
.    Delivery Methodologies
o    Demonstrated experience working in both Waterfall and Agile / Scrum delivery environments.
o    Ability to tailor architectural approaches based on project lifecycle and governance needs.
.    Leadership: Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor development teams, and engage with business and technology stakeholders.
.    Soft Skills and Collaboration: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to operate across multiple teams and disciplines.

Certifications
.    At least one cloud certification, such as:
o    Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions
o    AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
.    TOGAF 9/10 Certified (or other enterprise architecture frameworks)

CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $95,000–$145,000. This role is an existing vacancy.

Use of the term ‘architect’ in this job posting refers to the technical sense related to Information Technology (IT) and does not imply that the individual practices architecture or possesses the requisite license as prescribed by the applicable provincial or territorial architect regulator. We are seeking individuals with expertise in IT architect-related functions, but licensure from an architect regulator is not a prerequisite for this position. Architecture is a regulated profession in Canada which is restricted in terms of use of titles and designation.
