We are hiring a Senior AI & Semantic Interoperability Expert (Remote) for the European Commission in Brussels and various locations around Europe.
Main ResponsibilitiesLead the exploration and implementation of generative AI and agent-based technologies (e.g. GPT@JRC, Claude, OpenAI) to enhance the automation, scalability, and contextual intelligence of semantic modelling processes and activities. Design prototypes with the support of other contractors and also oversee production-ready solutions aligned with the goals of the AI@EC initiative.Closely follow the evolving landscape of activities under AI@EC, ensuring that SEMIC’s work on semantic interoperability benefits from and contributes to the broader institutional2 AI strategy. Maintain regular exchanges with relevant AI-focused teams (e.g. JRC, DG CNECT) to align efforts, identify synergies, and feed back lessons learned.- Coordinate the integration of AI capabilities into the Semantic Registry of Data Models. Explore the use of LLMs for assisting with data model classification, semantic enrichment, and automated recommendation of reusable assets.Develop the use of generative AI to accelerate the modelling and alignment of interoperability artefacts in support of key EU policy initiatives, including the Single Digital Gateway Regulation (SDGR/OOTS), Interoperability Assessments, and European Data Spaces, ensuring all AI-driven outputs respect FAIR principles and EU semantic standards.Contribute to other SEMIC activities such as: overseeing and checking semantics activities entrusted by the Interoperability programme in DEP to other services in semantics such as the Publication Office, assisting and providing guidance to Data paces on adopting SEMIC profiles and assist in creating additional sub-profiles where necessary, organisation of workshops and conferences, writing blog posts

LEVEL OF EDUCATION
Minimum Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information and
Communication Technologies
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Minimum 8 years experience in Semantic methodologies, Semantic transformation,Metadata modelling, Linked dataMinimum 8 years experience in OWL, RDF, SKOS, XML, shaclProven work experience with machine learning and AI models in particular new trends working on agents.Very good written and oral communication skills, proven by talks and/or publications in the technical field of the competition.About the Company
