Job Description

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in managing financial accounting and reporting for a portfolio of hotels, overseeing period close processes, cash management, and investor reporting. This position partners closely with Operations and Executive leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning, while also contributing to process improvement and the professional development of team members. The role offers the opportunity to work within a growing, forward-thinking accounting team in a dynamic hospitality-focused environment and to build leadership skills through oversight of 1–2 direct reports.

Responsibilities

Manage financial accounting, financial statement preparation, and month, quarter, and year-end close processes for an assigned portfolio of hotels.Prepare and record month-end, quarter-end, and year-end journal entries, including calculations and postings for management fees, FF&E and tax reserves, depreciation, payroll, health care, 401(k), and other operating expense adjustments and accruals.Monitor and reconcile cash and FF&E reserve balances with lending institutions to ensure compliance with operating and loan agreements.Review and reconcile hotel intercompany accounts with related entities at the end of each period and coordinate needed cash transfers with the Senior Accounting Manager.Prepare Marriott owner franchise invoices, submit posting summaries, calculate royalty accruals, and process related payments.Prepare and submit sales and use tax returns for applicable states and counties, and process timely payments.Coordinate and communicate period-end close checklists, timelines, and deadlines with hotel General Managers and field associates as needed.Partner with the CFO to design, plan, implement, and support operating and capital budgets in collaboration with Operations and Accounting leaders.Assist in managing departmental planning efforts by tracking critical dates, deliverables, and meetings and ensuring they are met and supported.Participate in and help facilitate monthly team meetings, providing financial insight and updates as needed.Partner with Operations leaders to prepare and present monthly financial statement reviews to Executive leadership.Support Operations by managing key financial analyses, external reporting requirements, and hotel-specific financial requests and questions.Participate in periodic hotel General Manager meetings, presenting relevant financial content and supporting accounting-related training topics.Support the Construction team’s accounting needs, including managing, tracking, and reporting construction-in-progress (CIP) estimates, actual costs, and the loan draw and reimbursement process, while understanding loan documents and requirements.Manage hotel portfolio cash accounts, investor reporting, and quarterly distribution processes in alignment with operating agreements.Ensure timely preparation of cash forecasts and assess cash sufficiency to support targeted quarterly investor distributions.Assist with the creation of quarterly investor letters that communicate recent performance and distribution details to ownership.Manage quarterly cash distributions for the assigned hotel portfolio, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.Collaborate with the Senior Accounting Manager and CFO to identify training needs and develop approaches to expand the accounting, analytical, and leadership skills of team members.Help facilitate professional development training in areas such as accounting, financial analysis, leadership, technology, and project management.Partner with Operations to train hotel leaders and associates on accounting and finance-related topics.Perform as an active member of the accounting team and support colleagues and company policies through positive, professional communication and behavior.Complete assignments accurately under pressure and within tight deadlines.Identify and recommend opportunities to improve processes and maintain a continuous improvement mindset.Interact effectively with individuals at all professional levels and respond politely and professionally to customers, coworkers, management, investors, and external stakeholders.Respond promptly to internal staff and external vendors regarding accounting inquiries and issues.Maintain strict professionalism and confidentiality in handling financial and business information.Represent the company effectively and professionally within the business community and to the general public.Provide leadership and oversight to 1–2 direct reports, supporting their development and ensuring quality and timeliness of their work.Perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior Accounting Manager or Chief Financial Officer.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.Minimum of 5 years of directly relevant accounting experience.Certified Public Accountant (CPA), current or in process, highly preferred.Experience with financial accounting, month-end close, and preparation of financial statements.Proficiency in preparing and posting journal entries, including accruals and adjustments.Strong experience with account reconciliations, including intercompany and cash accounts.Familiarity with debt agreements and portfolio accounting.Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and analytical skills.Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle challenging situations and provide effective, practical solutions.Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.Ability to complete assignments under pressure and within short timeframes.Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with individuals at all professional levels.Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of an accounting team.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position based primarily in a professional office environment. The role is 100% on-site for the first few months, with the option of a hybrid schedule that includes one work-from-home day per week once fully trained. Standard working hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with periodic evening and weekend hours requested as business needs arise. During the summer season, the office closes at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays, offering an early start to the weekend.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $105000.00/yr.
