Senior Accountant

Job Description

This Senior Accountant role supports a growing, acquisition-driven organization by leading key monthly close activities, preparing complex journal entries, performing detailed balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting audits and financial reporting. The position plays a critical role in managing regional asset and liability balances, profit and loss analysis, and fixed asset reporting while providing guidance to other accounting team members. This is a newly created role driven by growth, offering significant opportunity to influence processes, improve efficiency, and contribute to ongoing expansion.

Responsibilities

Assist with monthly closing activities, including preparing complex journal entries, reviewing accounts, and posting entries prepared by others.Focus on regional asset and liability balances and profit and loss to ensure accurate and timely financial results.Prepare detailed balance sheet reconciliations by region, identify reconciling items, resolve discrepancies, and prepare necessary adjusting entries.Highlight and communicate significant reconciling transactions to regional controllers and work collaboratively to resolve issues in a timely manner.Analyze and prepare special request financial reports as needed to support leadership and regional stakeholders.Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities as needed, providing analytical support and insight.Provide documentation and support for annual audit requests and other audit-related inquiries as needed.Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations prepared by analysts and staff accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness.Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to other accounting team members, supporting their development and ensuring high-quality work.Evaluate existing journal entry and reconciliation processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and redesign workflows to enhance accuracy and efficiency.Exercise sound judgment in managing workload and communication, including setting boundaries on non-essential email involvement while remaining engaged on key decisions.Apply strong problem-solving skills to address issues in entries, reconciliations, and reporting, and proactively implement better approaches when current methods are not effective.Support fixed asset reporting, including fixed asset accruals and depreciation accruals, ensuring accurate recording and reporting.Perform bank reconciliations and general ledger analysis to maintain accurate financial records.Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting practices in alignment with US GAAP and IFRS.

Essential Skills

Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience as a Senior Accountant or Financial Analyst in a medium-to-large business environment.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university.Strong understanding of US GAAP and IFRS and current accounting practices.Extensive experience with journal entry preparation and general ledger accounting.Demonstrated experience with month-end close processes, including complex reconciliations and financial statement support.Proficiency in preparing and reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and resolving reconciling items.Experience with bank reconciliations, fixed asset reporting, depreciation accruals, and fixed asset accruals.Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to redesign processes when needed.Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with regional controllers and other stakeholders.Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of requests while maintaining focus on priorities.Confidence to stand your ground professionally while working collaboratively with strong personalities.Comfort working in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment with frequent acquisitions and evolving processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

CPA designation or comparable technical certification or advanced degree preferred.Audit background is highly desirable.Knowledge of Workday or similar ERP systems preferred.Experience in construction-in-progress accounting is beneficial.Experience in financial reporting and ad hoc financial analysis.Demonstrated ability to act as a process designer, evaluating why activities are performed and improving how they are executed.Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.Ability to set appropriate boundaries in communication while remaining a strong team player.Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
