Job Description

The Senior Accountant will lead inventory and cost accounting activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting and strong inventory controls in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. This role oversees inventory accuracy across multiple warehouses, manages complex reconciliations and month-end close tasks, and serves as a key partner to operations, warehouse, and sales support teams. The position is ideal for an accounting professional with a blend of public and private experience who enjoys working with data, improving processes, and presenting insights to leadership.

ResponsibilitiesOversee inventory accuracy by ensuring quantities, costs, and valuation details are correctly reflected across all systems.Partner closely with account management and warehouse teams to research discrepancies and resolve inventory-related issues in a timely manner.Reconcile inventory activity between the ERP and internal or third-party warehouses, investigating and clearing any unit variances.Manage the Received Not Vouchered (RNV) or Received Not Invoiced (RNI) process by comparing receipts to vendor invoices and resolving mismatches.Supervise, mentor, and support the development of the inventory cost specialist, providing guidance and feedback on daily activities.Prepare accurate landed cost calculations for inbound container purchases, including allocation of freight, duty, and related charges.Process inventory assemblies and troubleshoot errors originating from advance shipping notices (ASNs) or other system inputs.Review and analyze inventory-related general ledger accounts, researching unusual or unexpected activity and proposing corrections as needed.Identify and resolve ERP-related issues such as negative on-hand balances, missing costs, or incorrect item setups.Prepare quarterly analyses for slow-moving and obsolete inventory reserves, ensuring appropriate financial reporting and documentation.Reconcile all inventory-related accounts to the general ledger and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items.Prepare month-end journal entries for inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS) and support a timely and accurate month-end close.Perform inventory reconciliations and inventory journal entries, including reconciling sub-ledgers to the general ledger.Support standard costing processes and ensure accurate application of standard costs in the ERP system.Lead warehouse cycle count programs and coordinate annual physical inventory efforts, including follow-up on variances and process improvements.Support year-end financial audits and bank audits by preparing required inventory schedules and responding to audit requests.Contribute to ongoing process improvements by documenting updated procedures, workflows, and internal controls related to inventory and cost accounting.Build strong working relationships with warehouse, operations, and sales support teams to improve data accuracy and operational efficiency.Produce ad hoc inventory and cost reports for Senior leadership, summarizing key findings, trends, and recommendations.Operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, ensuring that all accounting deadlines and reporting requirements are met.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.1–2 years of public accounting experience combined with 1–2 years of private industry experience.Strong understanding of US GAAP and its application to inventory and cost accounting.Hands-on experience with inventory reconciliations and inventory-related journal entries.Demonstrated experience with month-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.Experience with standard costing and landed cost calculations.Experience managing Received Not Vouchered (RNV) or Received Not Invoiced (RNI) account reconciliations.Ability to reconcile sub-ledgers to the general ledger, particularly for inventory and cost of goods sold accounts.Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate large data sets using pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, and related functions.Experience working with ERP systems, with preference for large enterprise platforms.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to investigate variances and explain findings clearly.Ability to present financial and operational findings to leadership in a clear and concise manner.Demonstrated professional integrity, accountability, and commitment to continuous learning.Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment where meeting close and reporting timelines is critical.Additional Skills & QualificationsCertified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or active progress toward CPA is preferred.Experience with physical inventory counts and cycle count programs is highly desirable.Background in consumer packaged goods (CPG) or similar product-based industries is preferred, but other industries will be considered.Experience working in organizations with revenue of at least $100–150 million is beneficial.Familiarity with coordinating inventory activities across multiple warehouse locations.Experience with inventory assemblies, including working with external vendors who perform product assembly.Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner effectively with warehouse, operations, and sales support teams.Ability to document processes and procedures clearly to support training and internal control requirements.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.Work Environment

This position operates in a hybrid work environment, with on-site work Monday through Thursday and remote work on Fridays. The role interacts regularly with two primary warehouse locations, including a local facility and another located in Georgia. You will work extensively with an enterprise ERP system and Microsoft Excel, handling large data sets and detailed reconciliations. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with performance measured primarily by the ability to meet month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting timelines. The culture emphasizes collaboration with warehouse, operations, and sales support teams, continuous improvement of processes, and strong cross-functional communication. Standard professional office attire is expected when working on-site or visiting warehouse locations.

This is a Contract position based out of Irvine, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $50.48/hr.
