Job Description

The Accountant maintains and manages all aspects of the general ledger, oversees full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable, and ensures accurate and timely financial reporting. This role leads monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, supports compliance with GAAP and internal policies, and provides financial insight to support business decisions. The Accountant collaborates with internal teams and external auditors while contributing to a stable, team-oriented, and growth-focused organization.

Responsibilities

Maintain and manage all aspects of the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.Perform full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including processing, reviewing, and reconciling transactions.Reconcile bank statements and monitor cash flow activity to support effective cash management.Prepare, generate, and analyze financial statements and management reports to provide clear insight into business performance.Prepare and file sales tax returns, 401(k) reporting, and other required financial filings in a timely and accurate manner.Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies across all financial activities.Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date financial records and documentation to support audits and internal reviews.Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making.Coordinate with external auditors and support annual audit activities by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations.Provide accounting guidance and support to internal teams, helping non-finance stakeholders understand financial impacts.Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the month-end and year-end close processes.Use accounting systems and reporting tools to develop and improve financial reports and processes.Identify process improvement opportunities within accounting operations and contribute to more efficient workflows.

Essential Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.5–7 years of corporate accounting experience with strong ownership of the general ledger.Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office.Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with complex spreadsheets and financial models.Experience with large ERP systems, strongly preferred as part of daily accounting operations.Demonstrated experience with reconciliations, month-end close, journal entries, and financial reporting.High attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret financial data and resolve discrepancies.Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate across teams and with external auditors.Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

CPA certification preferred.Public accounting experience is a plus and helpful for managing audits and complex reporting requirements.Experience preparing and filing sales tax returns, 401(k) reporting, and other regulatory financial filings.General ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, journal entry preparation, and financial statement reporting.Familiarity with Sage or similar accounting software is beneficial.Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented culture while also working independently.Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.

This role is fully onsite five days per week at an office located on Addison Street in Chicago. The organization operates as a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated business and is one of the largest commercial laundries in the Midwest, serving a diverse customer base including restaurants, hotels, hospitals, long-term care facilities, surgical centers, and medical offices. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chicago, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
