Senior Accountant
Job Title: Senior AccountantJob Description The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the organization’s financial data and ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP. This role manages the monthly accounting close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting, while also overseeing payroll processing through BeneCare. Reporting to the Owner and VP, the Senior Accountant will collaborate closely with the CFO and outsourced accounting vendor to support financial operations, strengthen internal controls, and implement process improvements. This position is primarily in-person, with virtual training and meetings as needed. Responsibilities + Maintain accurate financial records and reporting in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). + Prepare and post monthly journal entries in QuickBooks Online. + Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare monthly cash flow reports for CFO/vendor review. + Compile monthly accounting close package with reconciliations and supporting details. + Run QuickBooks Online reports needed for monthly closing and reporting. + Ensure adherence to internal controls and related procedures, including expense reports. + Prepare reports related to receivables and support collection efforts. + Perform ad-hoc financial analyses as requested by Owner/VP. + Review weekly accounts payable entries in QuickBooks and approve bills for payment routing. + Prepare weekly AP approval reports and cash flow analyses for CFO and Owner/VP. + Monitor bank balances, deposits, and spending to support liquidity management. + Lead annual operating budget preparation and provide department heads with budget vs. actual reporting. + Oversee third-party payroll processing (BeneCare), ensuring accuracy and timeliness. + Work with vendor to maintain state filings. + Manage insurance policy renewals and 401k distribution processes under CFO direction. + Assist in coordinating annual Workers Comp financial reporting. + Identify process improvement opportunities and collaborate on implementation. + Prepare employee audit reports for insurance providers and other organizations as requested. + Perform other projects as assigned by the CFO or Owner/VP. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or finance preferred. + Three to five years of accounting experience. + Strong demonstrated knowledge of US GAAP. + Intermediate knowledge of accounting systems in general. + Advanced Excel skills. + Demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate financial data and tell the “story behind the numbers.” Additional Skills & Qualifications + Demonstrated experience with systems automation initiatives and creating efficiencies preferred. Work Environment The work environment consists of an office setting, operating Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vernon Rockville, Connecticut. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $43.27/hr.
