Job Summary: 

As a Senior Account Manager – Capture, you will lead and manage capture activities within the Caterpillar Defense Business Development, Sales, and Marketing team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with proposal teams to ensure alignment with Caterpillar Defense’s strategic goals, product offerings, and emerging technologies. Your insights and recommendations will help shape long-term capture strategies and guide the effective allocation of proposal resources. 

What You Will Do: 

Understand Caterpillar policies, procedures, and organizations, and leverage this knowledge to provide the best products and services from across the Caterpillar enterprise. 

Consult Business Development Segment leads and Account Managers to understand the defense product landscape and specific needs of domestic and foreign defense service customers. 

Design and sustain processes to carry qualified opportunities through the pursuit and offer stages. 

Engage with OEMs and government defense end user organizations to understand their requirements and deliver winning proposals. 

 

What You Will Have: 

Customer Focus – Extensive: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions. 

Aligns Caterpillar products and services with government customer objectives to deliver the most effective solutions. 

Develops Capture team deliverables to ensure full compliance with customer requirements. 

Promotes and exemplifies a strong customer focus as a core organizational strategy. 

 

Industry Knowledge – Working Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations. 

Demonstrates knowledge of the organization and functions withing the Department of Defense (DoD). 

Experienced in managing third-party proposal support resources, supporting proposal color team reviews, and serving as proposal manager for major capture efforts. 

Applies prior experience in developing and maintaining sales pipelines. 

 

Effective Communications - Extensive: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. 

Leads the end-to-end development of winning capture plans. 

Applies strong communication and leadership skills to coordinate effectively with business development and account management teams in preparation for upcoming capture opportunities. 

Collaborates with the Cat Defense BD and Sales Directors to align proposal resources as needed, supporting a smooth transition from opportunity qualification to active capture activities. 

Selects and oversees internal proposal team members to ensure appropriate support and accountability. 

Briefs and advises senior leadership on current and planned capture efforts, highlighting key friction points, resource gaps, and recommended paths to resolution. 

 

Value Selling – Extensive: Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service 'value' and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs. 

Supports team members on best practices, standards, and tools for defense capture and proposal development. 

Leads post-capture reviews and documents lessons learned to continuously improve future proposals and capture strategies. 

Assists proposal leads in crafting compelling proposal narratives that clearly communicate product value and effectively differentiate from competitors, regardless of capture size or scope. 

 

Additional Information: 

This position is located in Irving, TX and requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.

Summary Pay Range:

$144,960.00 - $217,320.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
