Seed Production Research Assistant
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Seed Production Research Assistant to support our Canola Early Breeding Seed Production team in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This position plays a key role in supporting research activities focused on improving canola crops through trait development. The ideal candidate will be passionate about agricultural research, possess strong technical and organizational skills, and be comfortable working in both independent and team-based environments.
This is a 12-month term position which can be a Development Assignment or a Contract position, based out of the Smartpark location in Winnipeg, MB.
What you will do:
Perform day-to-day operations in growth room environments including:Seeding, transplanting, pollination, and harvesting of canola plants.Ensure proper plant health management through:Regular care, pest and disease monitoring, and insect control measures.Conduct essential technical tasks such as:Tissue sampling for molecular marker analysis, chemical spraying, and data collection.Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental activities.Train and guide temporary or seasonal employees as needed.Collaborate closely with research scientists and technical teams to:Optimize workflows, improve existing processes, and implement new procedures.Participate in the preparation and review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and related documentation.Adhere strictly to Quality Management System (QMS) protocols and workplace safety standards.
Who you are:
Diploma or degree in Agricultural Sciences, Biological Sciences, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience working in a research environment, particularly with plant or crop sciences, is an asset.Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural research team.Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines.High attention to detail with strong observational and record-keeping skills.Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools, techniques, and technologies.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.Possession of a Manitoba Pesticide Applicator License is considered an asset
