Security Tour Leader 


The Security Tour Leader is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the mill by monitoring access points, operating communication and emergency response systems, and conducting patrols. This role manages incident reporting, dispatches fire and first‑aid calls, oversees security camera and key control systems, and serves as the first responder to onsite emergencies. Working independently on 12‑hour shifts, the Security Tour Leader supports overall risk management efforts and ensures a secure environment for employees, contractors, and visitors.

 
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
 •         Serve as the primary point of contact in the Watchbox or while patrolling the mill, often working independently to assess and respond to security concerns.

•         Operate the mill telephone system; receive, evaluate, and dispatch fire, first aid, and security calls for WestRock.

•         Act as a back-up dispatcher for local city and county fire, first aid, and police services when needed.

•         Initiate and operate the mill’s emergency evacuation and notification systems.

•         Issue and manage employee gate access cards and maintain accurate access records.

•         Monitor entry and exit through the main gate to ensure proper authorization and documentation.

•         Observe and assess activity through the mill’s CCTV security system, escalating concerns as appropriate.

•         Maintain and control the facility’s key file system located in the Watchbox.

•         Conduct regular patrols to deter unauthorized access, identify safety hazards, and ensure compliance with security procedures.

•         Respond as the first on scene support for fire and medical emergencies, securing the area and coordinating incoming responders.

•         Complete required documentation, including incident reports, logs, and dispatch records, with accuracy and confidentiality.

•         Perform additional duties necessary for efficient departmental operations or at the direction of the Risk Management Supervisor.

 

 

Work Schedule:

This role requires 12-hour shift work and overtime is required at times.


What you need to succeed:
 •         High School Diploma or GED required.

•         Must meet criteria for certification by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in Unarmed Security and Conservator of the Peace.

•         Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters.

•         Strong work ethic, reliability, and personal integrity.

•         Effective teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with employees, leadership, contractors, and first responders.

•         Ability to remain calm, organized, and decisive in high pressure or emergency situations.

•         Basic computer and documentation skills; ability to learn security software systems.

•         Physical ability to perform patrols, respond quickly to emergencies, and work in varying weather conditions.
