Security Systems Engineer

We are always moving forward – always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities. **The Role** The L2 Security Systems Engineer is a subject matter expert in Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) and Fiber Optic Intrusion Detection/Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (FIDSPIDS). This role is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of complex security surveillance and intrusion detection solutions. The L3 engineer acts as the final escalation point for technical issues, drives problem resolution, contributes to system architecture, and provides technical guidance to junior team members. They ensure the highest level of system performance, reliability, and security compliance. **Who You Are** **Technical Skills (Mandatory):** + **Deep CCTV System Expertise:** + **VMS (Video Management Software):** Expert-level proficiency with leading VMS platforms (e.g., Genetec Security Center, Milestone XProtect, Avigilon Control Center, Bosch BVMS, Pelco VideoXpert). This includes advanced configuration, troubleshooting, database management, and integration. + **IP Cameras:** In-depth knowledge of various IP camera technologies (resolution, frame rates, compression codecs like H.264, H.265, analytics capabilities, ONVIF/RTSP protocols). + **NVR/DVR/Storage Solutions:** Expert understanding of network video recorders, digital video recorders, and various video storage solutions (SAN, NAS, cloud storage), including RAID configurations and storage optimization. + **Video Analytics:** Strong experience with advanced video analytics features (object detection, facial recognition, license plate recognition, behavior analysis, people counting, queue management). + **Network Video Transmission:** Understanding of multicast, unicast, QoS, and bandwidth management for video streams. + **Comprehensive FIDSPIDS Expertise:** + **Fiber Optic Intrusion Detection:** Deep knowledge of fiber optic sensing technologies (e.g., distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), interferometric systems, microphonic cable systems). + **Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS):** Expertise in various PIDS technologies (e.g., taut-wire fences, microwave barriers, seismic sensors, buried cable systems, fence-mounted sensors, laser barriers). + **FIDSPIDS Processors & Software:** Proficiency in configuring, calibrating, and troubleshooting FIDSPIDS processors and associated management software. + **Environmental Factors:** Understanding of how environmental factors (weather, wildlife) impact FIDSPIDS performance and how to mitigate false alarms. + **Networking and IT Infrastructure:** + **Advanced Networking (TCP/IP):** Expert knowledge of networking protocols, routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting, and network security concepts as they apply to security systems. + **Cybersecurity:** Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, vulnerability management, penetration testing, firewall rules, VPNs, and secure remote access for security systems. + **Operating Systems:** Proficiency with Windows Server and Linux operating systems for managing VMS, analytics servers, and other security applications. + **Virtualization:** Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) for deploying and managing security system components. + **Database Management:** Basic to intermediate knowledge of SQL databases for managing VMS data and logs. + **Hardware Knowledge:** + In-depth understanding of various security hardware components, including servers, workstations, network switches, power supplies, and their interconnections. + **Integration Protocols:** + Experience with integration protocols and APIs (e.g., ONVIF, SDKs, web services) for connecting security systems. **Soft Skills (Crucial for L3):** + **Exceptional Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills:** Ability to dissect complex problems, identify root causes, and devise effective solutions under pressure. + **Strong Communication Skills:** Excellent verbal and written communication for technical documentation, client interaction, and team collaboration. Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. + **Leadership and Mentorship:** Ability to guide, mentor, and technically lead junior team members. + **Attention to Detail:** Meticulous approach to system configuration, troubleshooting, and documentation. + **Customer Service Orientation:** Strong focus on understanding customer needs and delivering high-quality solutions. + **Adaptability and Continuous Learning:** Eagerness to stay updated with evolving security technologies, industry trends, and best practices. + **Time Management and Prioritization:** Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. + **Teamwork and Collaboration:** Ability to work effectively within a team and collaborate with other departments (IT, physical security, operations). **Being You** Diversity is a whole lot more than what we look like or where we come from, it’s how we think and who we are.
