Human Resource Contact: Jessica.Nielsen@wyo.gov/ 307-532-6613 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. + To maintain institutional safety standards, the position requires the following: + Duties vary from administrative to security functions, but primarily operate at facility access points and control centers. + Enforcement of rules and regulations through the reporting of security violations. + Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level. + Identify staff, visitors, volunteers, and contractors entering the facility using a pictured identification card. + Screen, verify, and approve inmate visitors using WCIS. + Control contraband using different types of equipment, such as X-ray and metal detectors, at entry points into the secure perimeter. + Screen staff as they enter the facility, including search and positive identification. + Account for and inventory of tools and equipment, including keys, restraints, and less lethal chemicals during shift. + Know and understand the implementation of WDOC policy and procedure and post orders related to control centers, entry locations for staff, and other assigned areas. + Maintain an area log book of activities that occur in or around the area of supervisio,n including inmate movement and unit activities. + Report serious and/or significant incidents to the area supervisor when discovered. + Remain alert and vigilant at all times as well as regularly and routinely review cameras within the area. + Operate electronically controlled door systems throughout a facility/unit as assigned. + Commitment to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees. Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preferences will be given to those with three (3) plus years of experience in a security role. **This position must pass a background/reference check. KNOWLEDGE: + Knowledge of basic computer skills. + Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. + Knowledge of security measures, techniques, and precautions necessary to maintain a safe and secure institution. + Ability to enforce rules professionally. + Knowledge of security practices. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice) Experience: 0-1 year of progressive work experience as a Security Guard with the acquired knowledge at the level of a Security Escort OR Education & Experience Substitution: 1-3 years of progressive work experience as a Security Guard with the acquired knowledge at the level of a Security Escort Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Agency may require a CDL license. Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time. + May be required to sit, stoop, bend, kneel, or climb occasionally. + Candidates must have the ability to work on any shift, holidays, and weekends. NOTES: + FLSA: Non-Exempt + This position does not require a CDL license + This position does not require POST certification. + The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a Drug-Free Workplace.
