This position primarily works 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM on a Panama rotating schedule—including weekends and holidays—with the expectation of full shift availability. As a Security Officer, you’ll work 12-hour shifts, 7 days per 14-day pay period, providing a visible and reassuring presence across our hospital and adjacent properties.
In this role, you’ll work closely with fellow officers across four security posts, as well as hospital departments such as the Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient Mental Health (IPMH) units. You’ll patrol UPMC facilities, monitor alarms, respond to incidents, and provide excellent customer service—all while maintaining a secure and welcoming environment.
To be considered, candidates must hold a valid New York State Driver’s License. A New York State Security Guard Card is highly preferred.

In this role, there will be the opportunity to-
Staff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas Provide customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment. Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft. Respond to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances as necessary. Maintain required certifications and licensing. Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists. Transport deceased to morgue and release bodies from morgue. Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, respond to alarms and assist when needed. Establish a uniformed security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds, and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact other appropriate law enforcement when necessary. Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of all applicable state and local motor vehicle laws. Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details. Complete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelines. Report and document incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards.
