Role Title: Substation Control System (SCS) Engineer
Location: Qatar Role Overview:

The Substation Control System (SCS) Engineer will be responsible for the design review, testing, and integration of SCADA and substation automation systems within high-voltage substations. This role ensures robust system architecture, cyber compliance, and seamless communication with control centers (NCC/DCC), contributing to the reliability and efficiency of grid operations.

Key Responsibilities: Review SCADA/RTU architecture, Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), and communication protocols to ensure system integrity and compliance. Supervise end-to-end testing and commissioning of substation control systems, including integration with National Control Centers (NCC) and District Control Centers (DCC). Validate signal lists, I/O mapping, and ensure alignment with cybersecurity standards and utility requirements. Coordinate with protection, telecom, and commissioning teams to ensure proper data flow and system functionality. Ensure compliance with IEC 61850 and other relevant standards for substation automation and communication. Review contractor submissions, interface documentation, and participate in technical evaluations. Support troubleshooting and resolution of SCS-related issues during commissioning and operational phases. Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation Engineering. Minimum of 10 years of experience in SCADA, substation control systems, and automation engineering. Strong knowledge of: IEC 61850 and related communication protocols (e.g., IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus, DNP3) SCADA/RTU systems, IEDs, and substation automation architecture Cybersecurity compliance in utility environments Experience with configuration and testing tools for SCADA and IEDs. Excellent coordination, documentation, and communication skills.
