Scientist/Sr. Scientist - Oligonucleotide Developability
Lilly
At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.
The LIGM RNA Group is seeking an experienced scientist who is both independent and self-motivated, with extensive hands-on experience in drug product developability and the relevant analytical characterization for formulating drug substances based on various routes of administration and evaluating key properties, including stability, to identify promising candidates and predict their success in later stages of drug development. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record with parenteral formulation, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and other advanced analytical techniques, and will bring a strong background in formulation science and analytical characterization. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate exceptional technical problem-solving skills and a proven ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies or explore new fields. The ability to work independently while delivering efficient, high-quality results in a fast-paced environment is essential.
Responsibilities:
+ Design, develop, and produce formulations that enable drug delivery via various routes of administration (e.g., IV, IT, and SC) to support developability evaluation at the candidate selection stage for oligonucleotides and their conjugates, including carbohydrates, lipids, small molecules, and others.
+ Characterize solubility, and physical and chemical stability of drug candidates and formulations using various analytical techniques, including but not limited to chromatography, mass spectrometry, microscopy, thermal analysis, dynamic light scattering, pharmaceutical particle counter, and backgrounded membrane imaging.
+ Collaborate with discovery scientists (including chemistry, analytical chemistry, ADME, toxicology, and pharmacology) to characterize the physicochemical properties of synthetic oligonucleotides to assess development potential and influence the selection of clinical drug candidates.
+ Partner with Early Phase Oligo CMC team and drug discovery team to identify appropriate drug delivery technologies that provide the desired pharmacokinetic profile.
+ Identify and mitigate technical risks for the performance and production of drug candidates.
+ Demonstrate exceptional teamwork and learning agility to solve complicated technical problems and to identify and implement novel formulations based on drug delivery technologies that improve benefit to our patients and value to Lilly.
+ Collaborate with, inspire, and influence the external scientific community to drive innovation, foster collaborations, and enhance Lilly's internal portfolio
Basic Qualifications:
+ Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or similar scientific field, with at least 5 years of drug product development and characterization experience, OR Bachelors in scientific fields with at least 10 years of drug product development and characterization experience.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
+ A deep understanding of biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetic principles, phase-appropriate formulation development, pharmaceutical material sciences, and drug product factors impacting in vivo performance and manufacturing of drug candidates .
+ Demonstrated experience in working with parenteral formulations for oligonucleotides and their conjugates, with a deep understanding of biomolecular structure and behavior.
+ Proficiency in biophysical and analytical characterization techniques, including but not limited to light scattering methods, chromatography, backgrounded membrane imaging, and other molecular-level characterization tools.
+ Experience in supervising or guiding the work of other scientists.
+ Strong teamwork, communication, and writing skills.
