As part of the development of a new molecular biology activity at the Gosselies site, the Scientist II will play a key role in supporting internal Molecular Biology R&D initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to build and shape molecular biology capabilities from the ground up, including laboratory setup, operational oversight, and plasmid production activities.
The Scientist II will actively contribute to molecular innovation and support its translation into manufacturing and analytical processes, directly impacting the evolution of our technologies and services.
This role involves close collaboration with the DSS leadership team and cross-company stakeholders, providing strong exposure to multidisciplinary teams and technology transfer activities, while ensuring compliance and high scientific standards.
What will you do?
Oversee the design and establishment of a Molecular Biology laboratory, fostering collaborations to ensure timely project delivery.
Engage with internal stakeholders to support effective project scoping and ensure manufacturability considerations are integrated early.
Collaborate with Molecular Biology teams to review experimental designs, oversee execution, analyze data, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of results.
Identify and resolve technical challenges in close coordination with Molecular Biology leadership, VVS/mRNA colleagues, and external partners.
How will you get here?
Education
B.S./M.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology, biological sciences, life sciences or closely related fields.
Experience
· Hands-on experience in molecular biology, bacteriology, or relevant discipline.
· From 2 to 3 years of laboratory experience in academia or industrial settings.
· Strong technical background in molecular biology, cloning as well as bacterial production.
· Technical background in purification methods.
· Solid foundation in analytical scientific methods and instrumentation.
· Demonstrate good laboratory practices.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
· Demonstrates strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standard operating procedures.
· Complies with all company safety, training, and quality regulations and procedures.
· Able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.
· Exercises sound practical judgment within established guidelines and practices.
· Strong organizational and time management skills, including short- and mid-term planning.
· Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
· Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time onsite position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility is required to accommodate project timelines, including occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work. Participation in meetings aligned with U.S. Pacific Time is required and may include meetings scheduled around 6:00 p.m.
