This role is part of Alcon's Research & Development function, a team that innovates boldly and delivers new products and services to help revolutionize the eye care industry, advance optimal patient outcomes and help people see brilliantly and will be located in Fort Worth, TX.

The Scientist - Formulations, Materials and Process Development is primarily responsible for researching and developing innovative chemical formulations, focusing on sustainability and cost-effectiveness. You will be expected to build effective and meaningful relationships with cross-functional teams and stay informed on industry trends.

The Scientist will support formulation and process development activities of new intra and extraocular device biomaterials, with particular focus on ocular health related new products. Examples of key areas of interest are in development of new formulation/polymer systems for the next generation products, such as liquid formulations (solutions, emulsions, suspensions), biopolymers, synthetic polymers, hydrogels, implantable materials, and ocular delivery systems.

In this role, a typical day will include:

Conduct research to create advanced chemical formulations and develop new, cost-effective ways to enhance existing formulations

Collaborate with manufacturing teams to scale up production processes and troubleshoot formulation issues during scale-up and rollout stages

Serve as a technical resource for teams inside and outside of Research and Development

Maintain exceptionally well-organized lab notes and perform literature reviews to inform research efforts

Collaborate with peers scientifically both at a strategic and experimental level

Actively participate in team and department meetings

Improve formulation strategies for sustainability and propose innovative technology or methodologies that can advance formulations

Adhere to safety protocols

Stay updated on industry trends and advancements within Formulation Chemistry and learn new laboratory techniques and instrumentation

Execute research, characterization and analyze experimental data

Documents experimental results details of conducted experiments in appropriate formats and communicate effectively to project teams.

Assist in generating, reviewing and approval documents such as batch records, study protocols, reports, and standard operational procedures

Assist fabrication of GxP samples in aseptic cleanroom following established manufacturing procedures; knowledge of aseptic technique and qualification is required

Manage lab used chemicals as outlined in MSDS, SOP and other company prescribed, state and federal guidelines. Also, complies with all company established Health, Safety and Environment operational requirements.

What You’ll Bring to Alcon:

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +8 yrs; Assoc.+4 yrs)

The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
