Summarized Purpose:
We are currently hiring for a Scientist dedicated team in Stevenage to provide support with Imaging and Histology work.

The successful candidates will support ongoing laboratory research projects through hands-on experimental work, contributing to sample preparation, data generation, and analysis across multiple platforms while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.

The Imaging & Histology Support Scientist will be responsible for biological sample preparation for imaging and histological analysis, including paraffin embedding, sectioning, and slide preparation. The role will provide technical support for microscopy-based experiments and ensure accurate handling and processing of tissue samples.

Essential Functions:

Perform a variety of complex biological sample preparations for imaging and histological analysis

Prepare slides, sectioning and paraffin embedding

Ensure accurate handling and processing of tissue samples

Trains on routine operation, maintenance and theory of instrumentation, SOPs and regulatory procedures and guidelines. 

Maintain accurate experimental records

Ensures QA findings are addressed appropriately. 

Communicates project status to project leader. 

Performs work assignments accurately, and in a timely and safe manner according to Health as Safety procedures

Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.
 

Education and Experience:

BSc (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline

MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification is desirable but not essential, depending on experience

Demonstrated practical laboratory experience in Imaging/Histology

Formal training or certification in laboratory health & safety and good laboratory practice (GLP) is desirable
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

2+ years of experience in sample preparation for imaging or histology

Hands-on experience embedding samples in paraffin, sectioning, and slide preparation

Familiarity with tissue processing, cutting, and basic staining techniques

Experience supporting microscopy workflows (e.g. immunofluorescence or brightfield) is desirable

Strong attention to detail and ability to handle delicate biological samplesFamiliarity with SOPs, lab documentation, and health & safety compliance

Strong organisational and communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
