**DESCRIPTION** **In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:** **Accelerate Gear Development Projects** By coordinating tooling design and procurement, you'll help ensure gear prototypes and production parts are delivered on time and meet engineering specifications. **Enhance Gear Quality and Performance** Your understanding of gear geometry and manufacturing processes will support the creation of high-quality bevel, hypoid, spur, and helical gears. **Streamline Operations Across Teams** You'll expedite part processing and update program schedules, keeping internal and external stakeholders aligned and projects moving efficiently. **Support Innovation and Research** By assisting in lab activities like gear developments, research, and training, you'll contribute to cutting-edge advancements in gear technology. **Drive Cost Reduction and Quality Improvements** Your involvement in plant initiatives will help identify and implement solutions that reduce costs and improve product reliability. **Promote Best Practices and Safety** Maintaining top-tier housekeeping and supporting best practice implementation will foster a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. **Facilitate Cross-Functional Collaboration** Working closely with Gear Developers and Engineers, you'll help ensure project objectives are met and technical reports are well-documented. **Represent the Team Externally** Through travel to other facilities, vendors, and conferences, you'll serve as a key liaison, helping to build relationships and gather insights that benefit gear development efforts. **RESPONSIBILITIES** **To be successful in this role you will need the following:** **Understanding of Gear Fundamentals** Know gear geometry, types (bevel, hypoid, spur, helical), manufacturing methods, and quality standards. **Tooling & CAD Proficiency** Ability to coordinate tooling design and use CAD systems for gear development. **Computer Literacy** Proficiency in Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and barcode systems to manage schedules, reports, and data. **Blueprint Reading & Specification Interpretation** Accurately read engineering drawings and apply specifications to gear processing tasks. **Process Coordination** Expedite part processing and track product flow to ensure timely delivery. **Lab Activity Support** Assist with gear development, research, training, inspections, and customer visits. **Report Writing** Document findings and progress in detailed technical reports. **Fork Truck/Motorized Cart Operation** Safely operate equipment for material handling when needed. **QUALIFICATIONS** Environmental Factors: 8 hours normally inside Normal humidity and temperature for 8 hours Normal atmosphere for 8 hours No special hazards Protective clothing required. **Job** Engineering **Organization** Cummins Inc. **Role Category** Hybrid **Job Type** Student - School To Work **Application End Date** 02-JAN-2026 **ReqID** 2420459 **Relocation Package** No **Cummins and E-Verify** At Cummins, we are an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer dedicated to diversity in the workplace.
