Position: School Councilor
The School councilor, under the supervision of the Special Education Program Administrator or designated administrator, is responsible for providing comprehensive psychological services to students in grades K–12. This position supports student success through assessment, consultation, counseling, and collaboration with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
The School councilor plays a critical role in identifying student strengths and needs; supporting academic achievement, social-emotional development, and behavioral functioning; and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position emphasizes evidence-based practices, ethical decision-making, and collaborative problem-solving within inclusive school environments.
Essential Responsibilities
+ Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to determine eligibility for special education and related services.
+ Interpret assessment results and prepare clear, legally compliant written reports.
+ Participate in the development, implementation, and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including eligibility determinations and goal development.
+ Provide counseling and psychological interventions for individuals and groups addressing social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
+ Consult with teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers to design effective interventions and supports.
+ Support implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including academic and behavioral interventions.
+ Monitor student progress and recommend data-driven adjustments to interventions.
+ Provide crisis intervention services and support school-based safety and prevention initiatives.
+ Maintain accurate records, documentation, and compliance timelines in accordance with legal requirements.
+ Participate in IEP meetings, student study team meetings, parent conferences, and professional development.
+ Uphold ethical, professional, and legal standards in all services provided.
Minimum Requirements
Education
+ Bachelors Degree or Educational Psychology or similar
+ Doctoral Degree preferred
Experience/Requirements
+ School-based experience
+ Compliance with all professional and ethical standards of practice
+ Current CPR certification (renew if needed)
+ TB questionnaire, PPD test, or chest X-ray (will schedule)
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
