Overview Though 9 in 10 Latino young adults say a college degree is important for success in life, fewer than 15% age 25 or older hold a bachelor’s degree. Voices College-Bound Language Academies exists to change that. Voices is a public charter school network with a mission to prepare all students for the challenges of higher education through the context of an academically rigorous dual-immersion program. Every student, regardless of home language, graduates bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish. Role Summary Voices Academies’ School Assistant staff will work during meal, recess and enrichment periods and assist in the supervision of students inside and outside the classroom; prepare meals and assist with cleanup tasks; and perform other duties as assigned. All employees must fully support the mission, vision and values of the school and must be willing to actively and enthusiastically participate in a professional learning community. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of general needs and behavior of children; and know basic first aid; and appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Key Responsibilities Supervise: Communicate with students and motivate them to participate in learning activities Supervises classroom and outdoor playground activities to direct students into safe activities and relationships Observes activities of students and assists the teacher in maintaining order Informs the teacher on progress or problems Administers basic first aid, as needed Performs incidental housekeeping tasks, such as arranging objects, putting things away, cleaning tables, chairs, sweeping and work areas Performs related work as required Learn and adapt new procedures and conditions Apply knowledge and practices with good judgment Recognize and report hazards to safety Learn laws, rules, practices and procedures related to public education and related to the program to which assigned Underst

Required Qualifications: Maintain professional appearance, and maturity which establish a desirable example for students Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of Voices Academies with a deep commitment to improving the lives of students from low-income communities Ability to work well independently and within a team environment; working efficiently, and exercising excellent judgment in making decisions Works well in a fast paced environment Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of and experience working with low-income communities preferred Able to excel in an ethnic and socioeconomic diverse inner city community Working Conditions: Regular requirement to stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional evening and or weekend work Occasional travel Willingness to be trained as needed Employment: Reports directly to Business Manager Permanent Part-Time, Non-Exempt Position follows 10 month calendar At-Will Agreement
