**Description:**
**Job Requirements:**
***** Coordinates process for scheduling of elective surgical and procedure appointments.
***** Works directly with physician(s) to schedule all surgical procedures and surgeries as requested.
***** Review surgical orders and prepares preoperative paperwork as ordered by physician(s).
***** Set surgery dates with patients that fit within doctor’s schedule, Prepare information for patient and obtain Patient signatures.
***** Communicates with patients and their families to provide detailed instructions, directions and resources available.
***** Ensures all preoperative testing are ordered and completed timely while functioning with minimal supervision.
***** Complete appropriate insurance authorizations including writing predetermination and appeal letters to various insurance Companies as needed.
***** Coordinates surgery scheduling with OR, EP Lab, IVR, Respiratory, X-ray Departments, Centralized Scheduling and Admitting as ordered by physician(s).
***** Communicates special equipment, instrument and supply requests to OR Nurse Manager and Medical Device Representatives.
***** Considers instrument and equipment limitations of department when scheduling elective surgeries.
***** Allows adequate time for each procedure according to physician's request.
***** Attempts to schedule similar types of cases on the same day to increase productivity.
***** Verifies patient’s names, procedures, surgeons and times with Admitting Office for hospital transfer.
***** Ensures all transfer orders are received and completed timely.
***** Ensures patient medical records including Imaging discs are transferred with the patient.
***** Communicates all changes of schedule to appropriate departments in a timely fashion.
**Experience & Skills:**
* Two (2) to three (3) years of Surgery office scheduling or clerical experience is required.
***** Medical terminology knowledge required.
***** Advanced computer skills and experience with computerized scheduling system required.
***** Good written and verbal communication skills necessary.
**Education:**
***** High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Medical Assistant or LPN preferred
**Licensure/Certification:**
Certified / Registered Medical Assistant or LPN preferred
